Highlights

Nairobi to Masai Mara

Rift Valley Province - (We offer complimentary airport pick-up for all our guests arriving by flight in the morning of Day 1 - pick-up time will be at 6 am from the airport to the departure point in Nairobi city).

You will be collected from your hotel in the city center and begin your safari to the Masai Mara Game Reserve, with a stop at the Great Rift Valley viewpoint. Here, you will enjoy a stunning view of the scenic floor of the Rift Valley. The Rift Valley is a geographic expanse stretching 6000km across the Middle East and Africa from Jordan to Mozambique. The valley showcases significant topographic diversity with its escarpments and volcanoes, lakes, ancient granitic hills, flat desert landscapes, and coral reefs and islets. The incredible view as you approach from Nairobi, Kenya is truly remarkable. You will also see Mt Longonot from a distance.

Mara River - Upon arrival at the camp, you will check in and proceed for an afternoon game drive in the Masai Mara Game Reserve. Return to the camp for a delicious buffet dinner, followed by a restful night at Lenchada Tourist Camp.

Full Day Game Drive in the Mara

Mara River - Spend the entire day exploring the Masai Mara in search of the Big Five. If you are fortunate, you will spot the Big Five and witness the wildebeest migration. You will have picnic lunches in the Reserve as you take in the beauty of the Mara. There are many resident hippos and crocodiles along the banks of the Mara River.

Maasai Mara National Reserve - Breakfast at 6:00 am. Depart your hotel after breakfast for a full day game drive. The Mara is home to perhaps the most spectacular event in the natural world: the great migration. This annual migration of millions of wildebeest and zebra from the Serengeti (in Tanzania) is in search of water and pasture. Following closely are the predators of the savanna – lions, cheetahs, jackals, hyenas, and vultures. It is considered the best safari destination in the world.

Mara to Nairobi

Mara River - Early morning breakfast followed by checkout. After this, you have the option of visiting a nearby Maasai village for a cultural tour at an additional cost of USD 20. Then, begin the drive back to Nairobi. Lunch will be served en route at a traveler’s motel. Upon arrival, you will be dropped off in the city center or at your hotel within the city center.

Ololaimutiek - This is the general area where our accommodation is located in the Maasai Mara. We will have the opportunity to visit the traditional village of the local Maasai tribe. They are eager to share their culture and traditions, show us their lifestyle, and explain how they live and coexist with the wild animals. For the Maasai, cows are a symbol of wealth. The Maasai have long practiced a “green” approach to land management. Lion-hunting was a traditional—but no longer practiced—rite of passage for young Maasai men. In the past, young Maasai men proved themselves as warriors (moran) by ritually killing a lion, either alone or in a group, using only their iron spears. It’s nearly impossible to beat the Maasai in a jumping contest. There is much more to learn once you visit their village.

Exceeded Our Expectations - This is one of the more reasonable safari tour agencies that we checked into. Our camp was no frills, but clean, comfortable, and accommodating staff. They use 4×4 Range Rovers rather than vans and can go where vans can't. Despite missing the Great Migration by about a month, there was still an abundance of animals. A Maarai guide said the best time to come is in July.

A great tour with all you need to experience the Maasai Mara National Park - This was an incredibly gerat experience! The Camp we stayed was basic but perfect for this kind of nature adventure, and the staff was very friendly and helpful. So, if you are not looking for luxury, this is it! The Land Cruiser Tours through the park were just marvelous, with many wild animals nearby. Our driver Francis was simply the best. A very nice person, and always perfectly informed about where to go next! Higly recommended!

Book this safari now - This safari was awesome. The driver Nathan arrived on time for the pickup. Coincidentally, a family of three on the safari was staying at the same hotel. We boarded and picked up one more person. Nathan is a safe driver. We were going to stop for a beautiful photo of the valley, but it was foggy, so he told us we would stop on the way back. He got us to our lodge for so food and a little rest. We had our first game drive that afternoon. Nathan is knowledgeable and diligent. He made sure we saw animals day one. We found a group of Hippos that no one else was around, so we got great photos before any other jeeps arrived. Day two was very productive. We saw lions leopard, elephants, and buffaloes. We saw a cheetah that was stalking gazelles. The gazelles were a little too far from the cheetah, so we did not witness. a high speed chase. Nathan made sure the ride back was eventful. We stopped at a catholic church that only seats 12 people. We had lunch at a lake. I recommend this tour with Nathan as your guide/driver.

Almost perfect tour with perfect guide - Very nice tour all over. Our guide, Stanley, was the best you could wish for. Knowledgeable, funny and open to tell about a lot of things - not only about The Mara and it's animals, but also anything else you'd like to learn about parts of Kenyan culture. On top a very skilled driver, that quickly brought us to the places where animals had been sighted. His personality probably helped make it good for everyone in a joined group. The accomodation was okay, a nice bed in a tent (with its own walled shower/toilet) in a small camp. Fine for the pricepoint, just as expected. Only thing annoying was that the group stayed at 2-3 different camps, so picking up and dropping off took a little extra time, and the roads near many camps are completely awful, much much worse than going aff road in the Mara (which we did several times). So a little too much "African Road massage" in the morning/evening.

Really bad - Booked this from the UK as our first experience of a Kenyan Safari, however we were significantly disappointed. Sevea items noted in the listing are false advertising It is definitely a budget safari despite it stating "mid-luxury acccomodation" on the listing. The accommodation itself has not been maintained - toilet was not flushable until 10 minutes after the last person used it. Breakfast and lunch were basic options- toast and egg, and pasta and veg. The listing also stated that water was included. This is not the case so come prepared. Water is only included when you are on the safari truck- not in the accommodation. Be prepared to purchase water during breakfast, lunch and dinner. I personally liaised with Sylvia before booking to confirm dietary requirements. I was told that either halal or vegetarian options would be available. The picnic lunch provided had Ham with no alternatives. This meant we had to eat the muffin and fruit instead - there are no places to purchase alternative food when in the masai mara Park. Another discrepancy with the listing is the 3 day safari and description. It was actually a 1.5 day safari. The last day was spent at the masai village ($20 entrance fee plus $$$$ in tips which are requested). Come with small dollar bills as tips are expected from everyone you interact with. The customer service after was also ridiculous with Sylvia mentioning that we were the only ones with the issue. This isn't true as there was a vegetarian in our group who also raised the same issue. Really disappointing

Visit Masai Mara but not with this company - The one star is only for Masai Mara’s natural beauty! The guide Joseph was a ok driver but barely communicated. He only named the animals we were seeing, nothing more, perhaps due to his limited English… The Rhino camp was a nightmare! Bad food, broken tents, no water or if any it was pink and cold, no camp fire at night as promised. Terrible management. Issues with pick up and drop off from my hotel. Almost 1 hour earlier than announced for pick up and I was asked by Sylvia from Safari Wilderness tour to pay an extra 20$ to be dropped off when it was free for pick up! Even if you travel on a budget like I did, I would not recommend!

Unnecessary problems and lots of confusion - The park is quite nice, lots of animals to see and plenty of variety. Unfortunately the hotel was very basic. We didnt have warm water or a mosquito net that covered the full bed. Lots of molt in the bath room, no electricity adapters. Food extremely basic, but stuff quite nice. I hoped for some badic fruits or basic salad. Everyone of the group booked through a different agency with different packages. Why so many brand names? Some chaos because we didnt get our tents, others their wished transport etc. And of course always when someone had a confusion with the company we had to wait 10 minutes. The driver was very funny, lots of jokes and passion, but it bothered us to always have to wait for him. 6 people waiting in a hot bus and he goes for a coffee. In total the tour is quite overpriced. We wish that the companies pay their employees better so that they dont have to beg for a tip non-stop. Your margins are crazy and I had the feeling that all companies have the same owner. I wish for less brand names, less packages, less choice, fixed program. The balloon ride would have been nice, but 900 USD for two people is quite expensive (around double the price than in Europe). The maasai village was really cool, but again confusion who already paid for it. The park requires passports, and like all people in kenya they love unneccessary burocracy. We had to wait an hour. They make things complicated and are definitely not organized enough to handle that mess. It cannot be that one part of the group already paid for the park, and the other one not. One budget package, one premium package, no adaptions or extra wishes please. You definitely cannot handle it.
