Machachi - Technical Stop for breakfast if you didn’t have it(not included), we recommend buying snacks, candies, or chocolates for your days of trekking, there are some ATMs if you need more cash for souvenirs in the communities or extra activities.
Sigchos - we can appreciate The Gran Toachi River Canyon from different perspectives, very close to Sigchos City. The canyon was created by Quilotoa Volcano 800 years ago.
Chugchilan - Hike from Chugchilan Town to Quilotoa Crater, crossing the canyons on the North Side of Quilotoa Volcano, one of the best experiences that travelers love is meeting with local people in Kichwa communities. There are some distances and routes that you could choose but the maximum is 11-12 km(7-7.5miles).
Quilotoa - Free time in the community for your lunch (not included) you can explore the lookouts and the Craft Market.
Crater Loop
Quilotoa - Breathtaking views from Quilotoa crater, during the 10km(6,2miles) we can appreciate the lagoon, the valleys and canyons around the volcano.
Mirador Shalala - We visited the Shalala Lookout, its community created a glass/wood structure to appreciate the lagoon some years ago.
The lookout was part of the ‘2015 Work of the Year Award’, and was chosen as one of the best architectural works of the year built in Spanish-speaking territories.
The hike continues to the highest peak of the crater 3930m(12893ft). Finally, we finish at the same community where we started.
Volcanic Lagoon
Laguna Quilotoa - “Great Volcano full of water!”. After a relaxing path to the lagoon, almost 1.7 km, you will find the Lagoon Dock, at 3,500m(11483ft), there are some activities that the Community offers such as kayaking, motor boat or the ascent to the Community in mule/horse, you can even ask about the camping area on the shores of the lagoon.
Quilotoa - Free time for your lunch (not included) and getting ready to come back to Quito(or the city where we started the tour). Drop-off in your hotel.
