Highlights

Cuenca - Ingapirca - Riobamba

Ingapirca - In the morning your tour guide will pick you up at your hotel or meeting place. We will then take you on a 90-minute drive to Ingapirca. On the way, you will experience the enchanting highlands and beautiful scenery of the Southern Andes of Ecuador. Ingapirca is the most important Inca structure in the country. It consists of a main elliptical platform known as the “Sun’s Temple”. Alongside are courtyards, terraces, and various other ruins we will also explore.

Colta - After lunch at a local restaurant, we will continue on the Pan-American highway to Riobamba. Along the way, we will stop at Colta, a small town where the Spanish founded the first city in Ecuador. Here you will also find “Balbanera” the first catholic church built by the Spanish. We will also visit a local artisan that makes “Tagua crafts” also known as natural ivory.

Riobamba - Baños - Route of the Waterfalls

Banos - Drive from Riobamba to Baños through the Avenue of the Volcanoes. Weather permitting, we will admire the snow-capped mountains. This includes Tungurugua, Altar, and Chimborazo, the highest peak in Ecuador.

Upon arrival in Baños, we will visit the Tree House with the swing of the “End of the World”. Later on, we will drive for about an hour, making several stops along the “Route of the Waterfalls”. After a two-kilometer hike we will reach the “Pailon del Diablo” waterfall, one of the ten largest waterfalls found in Ecuador. We will then check you in at your hotel. You are free to enjoy the rest of the afternoon at the hot springs or take a walk to explore the city and surroundings on your own.

Puyo and the Amazon Rainforest

Puyo - We will visit Puyo and Cotococha area to immerse ourselves into the Amazon Rainforest. Once there, we will visit a local Quichua family to learn about their traditions and culture. We will also have the opportunity to take a smooth canoe ride down the river with a local expert guide (This activity is optional).

Later we will have the chance to visit the “Yanacocha Rescue Center”. Here you will not only be able to see the local fauna but also learn about the important work being done to benefit its conservation.

Baños - Devil’s Nose Mountain - Cuenca

Alausi - We will leave early in the morning to Alausi. In this charming town, you will take the train known as “The Devil’s Nose”. In its day it was considered one of the greatest feats of engineering that the world had ever seen.
This railway was built in 1899 with the intent of linking the coastal city of Guayaquil with the highlands capital of Quito. This amazing ride traverses and descends an almost perpendicular mountain face by using switchbacks.

After a trip full of adventure and culture, we will return to Cuenca.

Truly the Best Tour to experience the diversity of Ecuador! - I can’t imagine a better tour experience. A private tour with an extremely well-informed, friendly and bilingual guide. We visited places we never would have found on our own. We learned about Ecuadorian history, cultures, ecology, and politics from our very knowledgeable guide, who also knew of many small local businesses to visit, from restaurants and craft shops to an ethnobotanical park and wildlife reserves. Javier was very willing to adjust the itinerary to accommodate our interests too. It was like traveling around with an Ecuadorian friend!

Tour from Guayaquil to Cuenca and beyond. - The initial contact via email with Bestours was excellent. Emails were replied to promptly and queries received detailed explanations. They were exceptionally tuned into the interests of the customer. Our tour started at Guayaquil where we were picked up to visit Ingapirca on the way to our base at Cuenca. Our guide Javier was very knowledgeable and pleasant. The change of guide to Sebastian the next day was explained and we found him equally knowledge and accommodating for our tours over the next days. He was very flexible as he discovered things that we were especially interested in. We really appreciated this. The tour was arranged so that we gradually became accustomed to the higher altitude and we loved our walk in the Cajas National Park. We loved our whole experience of Ecuador.
