Drive to Kibale Forest National Park
Kibale National Park - Begin your journey to western Uganda, passing through lush green landscapes and tea plantations. You’ll have the opportunity to engage with locals during a market walk after lunch. Following lunch, a one-hour drive will take you to Kibale Forest, where you might spot monkeys, birds, and baboons along the way and during a stop-over. Accommodation options are available to suit various budgets.
Chimpanzee tracking
Kibale National Park - After breakfast at the lodge, prepare for a chimpanzee walk in Kibale Forest National Park, home to around 13 primate species. You’ll encounter various monkeys, including the Red Colobus, Grey-cheeked Mangabey, Black-and-white Colobus, L’Hoest’s monkey, and chimpanzees. Spend an hour observing these fascinating creatures during a 3-4 hour guided walk through the tropical rainforest. After lunch, visit Bigodi Swamp to spot more monkeys and bird species. The walk takes you through grasslands, small communities, coffee plantations, and local gardens, where residents are eager to greet visitors.
Drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park - After a leisurely breakfast, set off for Buhoma, near the renowned Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Famous for its rare mountain gorillas, the drive offers scenic views of local villages and the verdant countryside of southwestern Uganda. The park is one of Africa’s richest ecosystems, hosting 120 mammal species, 348 bird species, 220 butterfly species, 27 frog species, and many endangered species. Bwindi is also floristically diverse, with over 1,000 flowering plant species, including 163 tree species and 104 fern species. The journey takes approximately 4 hours.
Gorilla Trekking
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park - After breakfast, with a packed lunch, report to the park by 8:00 am for registration and a briefing by Uganda Wildlife Authority ranger guides. Begin your trek through the dense forest in search of gorillas, with chances to see birds, monkeys, chimpanzees, and butterflies. The trek can last 1-8 hours, depending on the day’s luck. Observing gorillas in their natural habitat is a thrilling experience, and you are allowed one hour with them. After the trek, you can choose to visit the pygmies or relax.
Transfer Back to Kampala or Airport
Kampala - On the final day of your trip, after breakfast, start your journey back to Kampala, enjoying the scenic views along the way. You’ll have lunch en route (not included) and can stop at the equator for a water experiment if you missed it earlier. Continue to Kampala, where your driver will drop you at your accommodation.
