It’s often said that there are two types of people in the world: those who have seen the Taj Mahal and those who haven’t. Today, we’ll witness the world’s most iconic and stunning man-made structure. Throughout this tour, we’ll uncover many mysteries and hidden secrets about the Taj Mahal, such as the plan to build another Taj Mahal in black marble next to the white wonder. By the end of this visit, you’ll likely agree that no other monument in the world symbolizes eternal love better than the Taj Mahal.
Fatehpur Sikri - Next, we head to Fatehpur Sikri, the magnificent ancient city near Agra built by Akbar, the great Mughal Emperor. Fatehpur Sikri is the best-preserved heritage site from the Mughal Era. Akbar was inspired by his ancestor Timur’s Persian Courts, which is reflected in the Persian design principles of Fatehpur Sikri. The red sandstone structures also incorporate elements from Hindu and Jain architectural styles. Highlights of Fatehpur Sikri include Diwan-i-Am, Diwan-i-Khas, Panch Mahal, Buland Darwaza, and Jama Masjid. Fatehpur Sikri served as the Mughal capital for only 10 years before Akbar moved to Lahore.
Jaipur - PM: Depart for Jaipur by road. 6:30 PM: Arrive in Jaipur.
Pink City of Jaipur
Amber Palace - Raja Man Singh I began the construction of this red sandstone and white marble palace. The formidable walls protected its residents from enemy attacks, and Maota Lake provides a splendid backdrop. Intricate wall paintings, frescos, and the use of precious gems and jewels in these paintings add to its timeless beauty.
Jal Mahal - Possibly the most serene sight amidst the chaos of Jaipur is the beautiful Jal Mahal, the Water Palace. This low-rise symmetrical palace, once a shooting lodge for the Maharajah, appears to float in the center of Sagar Lake. The light sand-colored stone walls of the Jal Mahal contrast starkly with the deep blue waters of the lake.
Hawa Mahal - Palace of Wind - Built by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh in 1798, Hawa Mahal is a five-story extension in the form of a honeycomb. This unique building has 953 small windows, called jharokas, decorated with intricate lattice work. The entire palace represents the crown of the Hindu God, Lord Krishna. Despite being built in ancient times, the palace reflects the scientific vision of Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh, with windows designed to allow a cool breeze to flow through the palace year-round.
City Palace of Jaipur - Constructed by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, this palace, like most structures in Jaipur, reflects a fusion of Mughal and Rajput architecture. We will explore gardens, buildings, courtyards, a temple, and a museum.
Blue City of Jodhpur
Jodhpur - 7:30 AM: Depart for Jodhpur by road. 1:30 PM: Arrive in Jodhpur.
Mehrangarh Fort - Mehrangarh is one of the most spectacular forts in India, perched on an impregnable rock 120 meters above the ground. It was built in 1438 by Rao Jodha, the founder of Jodhpur. Some scenes from the Hollywood movie “The Dark Knight Rises” were filmed at this fort.
Rao Jodha Desert Rock Park - Created in 2006, Rao Jodha Desert Rock Park aims to restore the natural ecology. Thorny shrubs were removed, and a suitable environment was created for native rock-loving plants to thrive.
Jaswant Thada - This white marble memorial for the Rajput community was built in the 19th century by Maharaja Sardar Singh in memory of his father, Maharaja Jaswant Singh II, the 33rd Rathore ruler of Jodhpur. The paintings and portraits inside tell the story of Jodhpur’s rulers.
Ranakpur and Udaipur
Ranakpur - 8:00 AM: Drive to Ranakpur. 11:00 AM: Arrive in Ranakpur.
Ranakpur Jain Temple - Built by a wealthy businessman and follower of the Jain faith, this temple complex features 29 halls and 80 domes supported by 1,444 intricately carved marble pillars, no two of which are alike.
City Palace of Udaipur - A two-hour drive brings us to Udaipur. The City Palace was built in 1559 AD by Maharana Udai Singh to commemorate Udaipur as the new capital. The present palace is a contribution from many kings of the Mewar dynasty over the last 400 years. The palace blends medieval European and traditional Indian architectural styles. Exploring this palace, built with granite and marble and featuring numerous towers, domes, and arches, is a magnificent experience.
Lake Pichola - Our next destination is the world-renowned Lake Pichola. The lake has an interesting origin, having been built by Pichhu Banjara, a gypsy tribesman who transported grain in the late 14th century. We will take a boat ride to admire the incredible palaces, marble temples, family mansions, and bathing ghats.
Jagdish Temple and Return to Delhi
Jagdish Temple Road - After breakfast, we will visit the oldest temple in Udaipur, the Jagdish Temple. Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, this temple was built in 1651 by Maharana Jagat Singh. A marble flight of 32 steps leads to the main shrine, which features a magnificent brass structure of Garuda, the celestial bird and guardian of Lord Vishnu.
