Summer Palace – Forbidden City – Temple of Heaven – Beijing Night Tour with Concert/Opera Experience (middle seat)
Summer Palace (Yiheyuan) - Guests will be picked up from their downtown Beijing hotel at 8:30 A.M. and driven for 40-50 minutes to the Summer Palace, a summer retreat for the Imperial Family, renowned as the best-preserved Imperial Park. Recognized as a World Heritage Site, the Summer Palace, originally named Qingyi Yuan or the Garden of Clear Ripples, was first built in 1750. It was destroyed by the Anglo-French Allied Forces in 1860. The Qing Dynasty government rebuilt it in 1886 using funds misappropriated from the Imperial Navy and other sources. Two years later, it was renamed Yihe Yuan or the Garden of Health and Harmony, and was again damaged by the Allied Forces of the Eight Powers in 1900. Visitors can explore the court area, lake area, and long corridor.
Forbidden City-The Palace Museum - After enjoying lunch at a local Beijing restaurant in the city center, guests will visit the Forbidden City. This imperial palace complex, located in the heart of Beijing, China, served as the residence for 24 Ming and Qing dynasty Emperors and was the political center of China for over 500 years, from 1420 to 1924. Now managed by the Palace Museum as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Forbidden City was constructed from 1406 to 1420 and served as the imperial palace and winter residence of the Emperor of China from the Ming dynasty (beginning with the Yongle Emperor) to the end of the Qing dynasty, between 1420 and 1924. Guests will spend several hours exploring this magnificent example of Imperial architecture and learning about the palace’s history. English audio guide devices will be provided for a deeper understanding of the rich history and stories of the imperial families behind the grand architectural buildings.
Temple of Heaven - This UNESCO World Heritage Site, constructed from 1406 to 1420, is a complex of imperial religious Confucian buildings and the largest Imperial place of worship from ancient times. Originally used by the Ming and Qing emperors to pay homage to Heaven and pray for a bountiful harvest, it is now a park where the local community engages in social activities such as singing, dancing, and Taiji practice.
National Center for the Performing Arts - After an early dinner, guests will embark on a Beijing night tour to the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA), one of the most stunning architectural landmarks in the capital city, famously known as the “Giant Egg.” This iconic titanium and glass dome, designed by Paul Andreu, is surrounded by an artificial lake and serves as China’s premier venue for opera, music, and theater. Guests will visit exhibitions and enjoy a concert or opera.
Tian’anmen - During the evening tour, before or after the concert, guests will drive through Tian’anmen gate, which will be beautifully illuminated in the evening.
Mutianyu Great Wall with Ski-lift & Toboggan – Lama Temple – Evening Acrobatic Show (middle seat) & Hutong Food Walking Tour
Mutianyu Great Wall - In the morning, guests will drive 1.5 hours to China’s Great Wall, the longest wall in the world. It is one of China’s most iconic symbols and is included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site as well as the New Seven Wonders of the World. After a 1.5-hour drive from Beijing city center, guests will arrive at the Mutianyu Great Wall, the most famous and ideal section of the Great Wall. They will take a ski-lift (or cable car) up to the breathtaking wall and spend a leisurely 1 to 2 hours hiking up and down the various sections, exploring the Watch Towers and marveling at the construction and beauty of the renowned and legendary Wall. Guests will then take an exhilarating toboggan (or cable car) ride back down from the top of the Great Wall.
Lama Temple (Yonghegong) - After lunch near the Great Wall, guests will drive to the Lama Temple, also known as Yonghe Temple, Harmony and Peace Palace Lamasery, or Yonghe Lamasery. Located at the northeast corner of Beijing City, it is considered the largest and most perfectly preserved lamasery in present-day China.
Red Theatre Beijing Acrobatic Show - In the early evening, guests will drive to a theater to watch an outstanding performance of stunts, dance, and acrobatics by men and women in colorful costumes. This breathtaking acrobatic show starts in the early evening, and guests will have a middle seat for the show.
Beijing - After the acrobatic show, guests will enjoy an evening “hutong” walking food tour around the Dongsi Hutong area. This experience includes a walking tour with hidden eatery visits, offering an immersive culinary adventure that primarily focuses on navigating historic hutong alleyways to sample authentic local dishes, such as fried pancake, yogurt, hotpot, soup dumplings, “Cross Bridge” Rice Noodles originating from the Yunnan province, street barbecue paired with local beer or “baijiu” (Chinese liquor around 40%-60% alcohol by volume). Adventurous foodies can try Intestine soup.
