Machame Hut Camp

Machame Hut Camp

Shira Plateau
Mount Kilimanjaro - After breakfast, we continue our hike through the forest. We will take our time, enjoying the scenery as we move through the moorlands, with spectacular views of Kibo peak.
Hiking: 4-6 hours
Overnight Altitude: ~12,500′
Barranco Camp
Mount Kilimanjaro - Today is a long day with lots of acclimatization as we climb high and sleep low. We will hike to Lava Tower (~15,190’) for lunch, then descend to the Barranco valley. If time and weather permit, there’s an option to scramble up the Lava Tower. The scenery is stunning, passing through different mountain zones.

Overnight Altitude: ~13,044′
Karanga Camp
Mount Kilimanjaro - Today you’ll continue to acclimatize and let your body adjust to the higher altitudes in preparation for the summit push. Climb the steep Barranco Wall, then traverse several ridges and valleys before reaching Karanga camp. There may be time for an acclimatization hike in the afternoon.
Hiking: 4-5 hours
Overnight Altitude: ~13,106′
Barafu Camp
Mount Kilimanjaro - Today you’ll continue your circuit and reach your final camp before the summit (Barafu camp). The route includes some ups and downs along ridges and valleys. You’ll have an early supper, sleep for a few hours, and then wake up around 11:00 PM to start the summit ascent.
Hiking: 3-4 hours
Overnight Altitude: ~15,331′
Summit and Mweka Camp
Mount Kilimanjaro - Start hiking around midnight, using headlamps to guide the way slowly up to Stella Point and then the summit. Due to the altitude, you will hike slowly and need to dress warmly. After celebrating at the summit, descend to Mweka camp.
Hiking: 6-7 hours ascent to the summit, then 6-9 hours of descent
Summit: ~19,341′
Overnight Altitude: ~10,500′
Mweka Park Gate (~5,000’) to Moshi
Kilimanjaro National Park - We make the final descent through the rain forest to Mweka Gate. Here we will have lunch and bid farewell to our mountain crew before leaving Mount Kilimanjaro National Park. Drive back to Moshi for a hot shower and a celebratory dinner.
