Highlights

Arrival Day

Moshi Town - Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), you will be greeted and transported to Keys Hotel in Moshi town for a briefing, dinner, and an overnight stay.

Please note: Keys Hotel is situated along Uru Road, 300 meters from the YMCA Hotel Premises.

Moshi – Londorossi Gate (2100m) – Mti Mkubwa Camp (2750m)

Mount Kilimanjaro - After breakfast at your hotel, your guide will brief you on the day’s activities. In the village near Londorossi Gate, you will receive a packed lunch and have the opportunity to purchase mineral water for the hike. The final 45 minutes of the drive to the gate will be on a rough forest track requiring 4WD vehicles.

At the entrance gate, the guides and porters will distribute supplies and register with the Tanzania National Parks Authority (TANAPA). You will then begin your 3-hour hike into the rainforest. Keep an eye out for Colobus monkeys! You will stop for an afternoon lunch break and arrive at Mti Mkubwa (“Big Tree”) Campsite (2750m) in the early evening.

The porters, who arrive at the campsite ahead of the clients, will set up your tent and boil water for drinking and washing. The chef will prepare a snack and then dinner for the clients. Be prepared for nighttime temperatures that may drop to freezing!

Mti Mkubwa Camp (2750m) – Shira 2 Camp (3840m)

Mount Kilimanjaro - After an early morning breakfast, you will begin your ascent out of the rainforest and into the heather moorland zone. You will cross several streams and walk over a plateau leading to Shira 2 Camp (3840m). At this campsite, you will be next to a stream and have a spectacular view of the Western Breach and its glaciers to the East.

As with the first night, your tents will be set up before you arrive at camp, and the porters will prepare drinking and washing water for you. You will enjoy evening snacks and then dinner prepared by our chef. Be ready for a cold night as temperatures drop below freezing at this exposed camp.

Shira (3840m) – Lava Tower (4630m) – Barranco Camp (3950m)

Mount Kilimanjaro - After an early morning breakfast, you will leave the moorland environment and enter the semi-desert and rocky landscape. After 5 hours of walking east, you will reach the Lava Tower (4630m). Packed lunches will be served at the Tower, and hikers have the option of climbing the massive Lava Tower, weather permitting. At this point in the hike, it is normal to start feeling the effects of the altitude, including headaches and shortness of breath.

After lunch, you will descend from Lava Tower (4630m) to the Barranco Campsite (3950m). The 680m descent provides a significant advantage in allowing your body to adjust to the high altitude conditions. The descent to camp takes around 2 hours. It is located in a valley below the Breach and Great Barranco Wall (“Breakfast Wall”). Drinking and washing water and dinner will be served as you watch the sunset.

Barranco Camp (3950m) – Karanga Camp (3950m)

Mount Kilimanjaro - This is a short hiking day intended for acclimatization. After an early morning breakfast, it is time to conquer the Great Barranco Wall! Although it may look intimidating at first, hikers often find that this Class 2 hike is easier than anticipated. At the top of the Wall, you will have a view of Heim Glacier and will be above the clouds. The trail then winds up and down through the Karanga Valley. You will spend the night at Karanga Camp (3950m) and enjoy dinner and washing at the site.

Karanga Camp (3959m) – Barafu Hut (4600)

Mount Kilimanjaro - After breakfast, you will begin your ascent. The trail intersects with the Mweka Route, which is used for descent on the final two days. After about an hour of hiking, you will reach Barafu Hut. This is the last water stop for the porters as there is no accessible water at Barafu Camp (4550m). The word “barafu” in Swahili means “ice,” and this camp is located on a rocky, exposed ridge.

Tents will be exposed to wind and rocks, so it is important to familiarize yourself with the campsite before dark. An early dinner will be served so you can rest before attempting the summit the same night. Your guide will provide a detailed briefing on how to prepare for summit night. Try to sleep by 19:00!

Summit Day – Barafu Camp (4600m) – Uhuru Peak (5895m) – Mweka (3100m)

Mount Kilimanjaro - You will set off just after midnight in the dark and cold. Using headlamps, you will climb the frozen volcanic dust towards Stella Point on the crater rim, which takes about six hours. The sun should be rising as you arrive. Just an hour or two more, and you will be standing on the highest point of the crater: Uhuru Peak. On top of the world! Take a short break for pictures and celebratory hugs before beginning the steep and dusty descent. By now, the volcanic ash will have thawed. You will stop for a short tea break at Barafu and then continue downhill for about three hours to Mweka camp (3080m). This is your overnight stop. Rehydrate by drinking lots of fluids and enjoy a hearty supper.

Mweka Camp (3100m) – Mweka Gate (1980m)

Mount Kilimanjaro - The day begins with a traditional farewell ceremony from the porters. After about three hours of descending through the lush forest, you will reach Mweka gate, where the driver will be waiting to take you back to Keys Hotel in Moshi town. A hot shower, a cold drink, a debrief, and your certificate of achievement await you. Well done!

Excellent Kilimanjaro climb - professional, personalised, great attention to detail - I had an incredible experience on the Lemosho route with Kilimanjaro heroes. I was made to feel welcome and safe as a solo female traveller, and was in a group of 3 in total. There was great attention to detail, and the tour felt very professional and personal. The guides - Kelvin and Gasper - were very knowledgeable and approachable too. Peter the chef even baked us a cake on the mountain after we summitted which was an incredible gesture.

Unforgettable Kilimanjaro Trek - I could not speak more highly of our experience. My husband and I did the 7 day Lemosho route with Emanuel and David and had the experience of a lifetime. They were so helpful throughout the week, true experts of the mountain, and so kind and fun to hike with. Himedi (our chef) cooked the most amazing camping meals and fed us so well we only ate our pre-packed snacks a couple of times during the week. All of the porters were so kind, helpful and always positive. Thank you Kilimanjaro Heroes for an unforgettable trip!

It’s the Journey! - It’s not the destination, it’s the journey Most trekking companies will get you to the top of Kilimanjaro but there is no company that will do it with the energy and passion that Heroes brings. We came across several people making the trek and their guides were just ok. Heroes were exceptional on every level, From the time we arrived at the airport to when we completed the climb and were dropped off at our hotel, they were with us. To help us, encourage us and to bring the energy we could t find within ourselves at times. Kelvin, Mwinyi and Glory were not only knowledgeable about the mountain, they went above and beyond to make us feel like we were old friends. Summit day we had an extra guide with us, Amir, he was not only helpful when we needed it, he would anticipate what it was we needed. And we needed the help. Regardless if your a veteran or if this will be your first climb, there will be things that are out of your control and Heroes will be with you every step of the way. Glory, Mwinyi, kelvin and Amir, thank you so much for making our experience what is was- SPECTACULAR! It’s a team effort, from our porters, all excellent, to our amazing chef, it took a village to accomplish this goal of mine and I wouldn’t t want any other village but Heroes! The destination is amazing, seeing that sign and views after days of climbing, but it’s the Heroes that made the journey. Kilimanjaro Heroes Adventures is a must for anyone wanting to hike Kilimanjaro Asante Sana Hero’s!!!

One team, one dream! - Me and my husband traveled to kilimanjro region this may 2024 and our first honey moon stop was hiking mount kilimanjaro. We had this dream from years ago, and the dream came true with kilimanjaro heroes adventures. We have no words to describe how greatfull we are with this comapny. It’s a local company from moshi, not a foreign/european one, so if you want yo contribute to local busines, this is a really good choice. By the way, all the team did the best for us and we were so so so happy with them. Ahsante sana and just say THANKS!!! Thanks to our guides Goodluck and Gaspar. Thanks to super Mayoo (best cook im the whole Tanzania!!). Thanks to our waiter David, and all porters: Albarth,Stephan, Corinel, David, Wilson and Judika!! You made that we will never forget this trip. You made the perfect honey moon for us. We hardly recomend this company. One dream, one team! Hakuna matata! Meryam and Alvaro

Kilimanjaro Heroes: the best companions you could dream of for climbing the mountain - If you want to climb Kilimanjaro, but worry about those huge companies managed by foreign people, please go straight to Kilimanjaro Heroes. It is a small company, 100% Tanzanian. Very friendly and very professional. I was worried to go and fall in a big factory, where you are only a customer between hundreds. Kilimanjaro Heroes is just the opposite of it. Up to 4 months before going there, we were in close contact via Whatsapp with Evarist, the boss. He was very reactive, giving us a lot of important information in addition to detailed answers to our questions. Once in Tanzania, everything was perfectly organized. Everyone was right on time, everything was perfectly settled, but most important everyone was really happy to show their country. We had an amazing time with the guides, Mwinyi and Gloria, who were really professionnal, unlike many other guides from other companies (we saw really unsafe/unprofessionnal behaviors there...). Their way to set the pace and keep it is one of the biggest reasons why we could go straight to the top without suffering like 50% of the people we saw there. They were really focused on both making us enjoy the mountain and being safe. They taught us so many things... Salum, the chef, was preparing delicious meals, and was really taking care of our delicate european stomacks. Prosper, the waiter, was always very friendly, very efficient. Maulid, Baraka, Masai, Walter and Riziki, the porters, were so impressive... They are really strong, were very friendly with us, and always chose very nice places for out tent, which is really not negligeable. All these guys come from Moshi, from the same neighborhood, thus the team was really united, and they know the place.... We all had a very nice time at their local restaurant after the climbing, it was a great time. We also had a great Safari time, and now our heads are full of good memories... This was really one of the 3 top experiences I had in my life. Thank you so much guys!

Lemosho Route in 7 days with Kilimanjaro Heroes - A unique experience! - A big thank you to the entire Kilimanjaro heroes team who gave us a magnificent experience! Whether it was our two guides Good Luck and David who allowed us to reach the summit thanks to their experience, their wise advice, their professionalism and their management of such an expedition, Evarist who managed the organizational and administrative part with seriousness by giving us answers to our questions very quickly (within a few hours, via email or even whatsapp), our Mayo cook who spoiled us a little more every day with such delicious dishes, or the whole team of porters with their smile, their sympathy, their kindness and their support, all contributed to making our experience unforgettable! And for that, I recommend without hesitation this very great company.
