Highlights

Arrival in Arusha

Arusha - You will be picked up from the airport by a Lion King representative and conveyed to your accommodation in Arusha where you will overnight, relax, and prepare in anticipation of the adventures to come. Ilboru Safari Lodge, is an oasis of calm and aesthetic pleasure.

Tarangire National Park

Tarangire National Park - Your Lion King safari guide will collect you from your accommodation after breakfast. This morning, you will drive to Tarangire National Park. The transit drive is approximately two and a half hours on good tarmac roads. The park is named after the Tarangire River, which runs through it. This ‘river of warthogs’ is the region’s only water source for wildlife during the dry season. The park is well-known for its elephant families, which can often be seen congregating by the river. You may also see giraffes, bushbuck, and hartebeest. A range of predators, including lions and leopards, closely follows these animals. More breeding bird species are found in Tarangire than anywhere else on the planet! The huge and ancient baobab trees can be seen here—some are said to have lived for over a thousand years.

Lunch will be at a picnic site inside the park. After your game drive, you will transit to your accommodation in Karatu.

Serengeti National Park

Serengeti National Park - After breakfast, you will drive up into the cooler regions of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. There will be a chance to stop and see the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater. You will then transit through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area to the Serengeti, entering the park’s south.

The Serengeti is genuinely spectacular! It is famous for its vast open grasslands, allowing excellent wildlife sightings. The Serengeti boasts an abundance of wildlife, such as impalas, buffaloes, crocodiles, and hippos. In addition to the iconic landscapes, you have a good chance of encountering predators, and you may see lions, cheetahs, and leopards. After your game drive, you will head towards your accommodation in time for dinner.

Northern Serengeti National Park

Migration at Serengeti National Park - After breakfast, you will wind through the Serengeti towards the northern region, stopping to experience more wonder on the way! While it boasts abundant wildlife, the Serengeti is best known for its annual great migration. During the migration, vast numbers of wildebeest, zebra, and antelope move in an annual pattern, constantly seeking fresh grazing. The migration can be found during any given month, you just need to know where to look! At this time of year, the migration usually is in the Northern Serengeti.

Northern Serengeti National Park

Migration at Serengeti National Park - The landscape is different in this part of the Serengeti and is made up of hills, riverine forests, plains, and rocky outcrops. The immense Mara River cuts through this area, providing the setting for the mind-blowing river crossing you may enjoy during your time here. During the river crossing, over two million wildebeest and hundreds of thousands of zebra and antelope attempt to cross the Mara River in search of fresh grazing and water. While they undergo their most remarkable feat during the migration, Nile crocodiles do not make it any easier for them! On the other side, lions, hyenas, leopards, and cheetahs can be found waiting with growling stomachs and high hopes for a delicious meal!

Northern to Central Serengeti National Park

Serengeti National Park - After breakfast, you will slowly return to Central Serengeti with an en route game drive. You may wish to continue your search for the migrating animals before leaving this special place. Every day is different in the Serengeti, and there is always plenty to explore.

Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater

Ngorongoro Crater - This morning, you will gently wind your way back through the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Conservation Area, seeing more animals on the way (it is common to see a journey of giraffes on the lush slopes). You should reach the crater by lunchtime.
When you first see Ngorongoro Crater, it looks like a forgotten world. A pristine wilderness is concealed by the steep volcanic walls, including sweeping savannahs, pockets of acacia woodland, and glistening lakes and swamps. The crater was created when a large volcano exploded and collapsed in on itself two to three million years ago. The drive down into the crater is an adventure in itself, and when you reach the crater floor, you quickly find yourself amongst large numbers of wildebeest, zebra, gazelle, and more than 500 bird species. The crater provides the best chance of seeing the endangered black rhino, which can sometimes be spotted in the open grasslands. After an afternoon game drive, you will drive to your accommodation in Karatu.

Lake Manyara National Park to Arusha

Lake Manyara National Park - This morning, you will drive to Lake Manyara National Park. Your final destination on this epic safari! Manyara is a small but diverse park 120km west of Arusha. Everything you will see here is on a different scale. It is compact (one of the narrowest parks in Africa) and epic (the Great Rift Escarpment towers over Lake Manyara’s western boundary). The park’s namesake is a shallow salt lake. The lake covers a large area of the park, flooding and drying with the seasons, and is home to thousands of wading birds (including flamingos and over 500 other bird species). You may see baboons and elephants in the park’s thick evergreen forest and watch for the tree-climbing lions that have become famous throughout Africa.

You will enjoy a picnic lunch inside the park.
After your game drive, you will be dropped off at a place you choose, e.g., Arusha, Kilimanjaro International Airport, or Arusha Airport. We hope you have enjoyed your adventure with Lion King Adventures.

Best Safari experience - We have chosen Lion King adventure agency based on reviews and we did the right thing! We can only recommend this company. Communication with them was excellent from the beginning till the end. Nothing was problem for them, we had some special requests concerning the parks we wanted to see and they adjusted the program according to our needs. The lodges ,which cooperate with Lion King agency, were also amazing, always very nice and clean. The food was simply delicious, when eating within the lodge or when taken with us to safari trip. Special thanks goes to our tour guide Luther Mahari, who spent the whole week with us. He was very patient, knowledgable and skilled. All our demands were fulfilled without any hesitation from his side. He even took a lot of very nice photos for us which we keep as a memory for this fantastic trip. Many thanks to everyone involved, you did an amazing job and we can only recommend this company for this trip!!

Experience of a lifetime - Everything was great. From the start Lion king was really helpful with planning our perfect itinerary. Due to work committments, we were not flexible with our tour dates and they designed the tour around us and our requests. All the lodges and camps we stayed at were clean, comfortable and served good food. The cherry on top of the cake was our guide Yusuph. He was simply incredible, he spotted all the animals and he went out of his way to make sure we had the best time. He is also a hero he stopped multiple times to help other safari cars that had a flat tyre and he single-handedly got a car unstuck from the mud. We will for sure be back to Tanzania and when we do we will book our safari again with Lion King.

2-week luxury trip to Tanzania and Zanzibar - We just returned from this wonderful Safari and Zanzibar experience. We were 5 people of 3 generations, and for all of us it was the trip of a lifetime. Lion King Adventures is outstanding. They arranged a terrific itinerary for us and were very helpful every step of the way. We loved our accommodations and, of course, all of the wildlife. One highlight was seeing a rhino and her baby from the hot air balloon which apparently is a rare sight from a balloon. Our guide, Gilbert, was great at locating many animals for us. He also had a good sense of humor, which was helpful, since my son continually made jokes or funny remarks throughout the journey. I would highly recommend this company.

July 8 day Safari - From before booking, Lion King adventures team was helpful and flexible, accommodating our wishes and making adjustments to the order of things and where we wanted to stay. We had sought quotes from several companies, and although Lion King was not the cheapest, we felt they really listened to what we were wanting. This was the first trip we had ever taken through an agency operator and it went amazingly well. Our guide Jeffry was great, experienced and friendly. He took good care of us and was a safe and thoughtful driver. Our 12 year old especially enjoyed his stories and easy going nature. With only 4.5 days of game drives, we saw all of the big 10, the ugly 5, not to mention a black mamba snake and many other fascinating creatures. Accommodations and food was better than expected. We especially loved Nyota tented camp in the Serengeti! Besides visiting Serengeti, the Crater and Tarangire (including a night drive), we added in some additional activities. Olduvai gorge was interesting, but because I was so eager to get into the Serengeti, we didn't stay long. We elected to visit the Datoga and Hadzabe tribes at Lake Eyasi. We saw several Masai tribes hosting visitors on our way into Serengeti. It certainly would have been convenient, but we had read that many of these visits are no longer authentic. The Hadzabe and Datoga tribes were welcoming and our local guide, Eric was also a translator for both tribes. He gave us a good understanding of the ways of life for the communities in the area. Joining the Hadzabe for a hunt, hearing and trying their language and practicing shooting with their bows was super fun. They are fast and you are going through the bush though, so I wouldn't advise unless you are physically fit and watch out for those acacia thorns. The Datoga tribe was less intense, more intimate though: seeing their hut, grinding corn, chatting with the women, and watching the blacksmiths create jewelry and arrows. The experience was a full day, which I hadn't expected. Overall it was super interesting, but I wish the timeline had been more transparent. Unless you are staying near Karatu, the experience needs to be shortened, less time hunting perhaps. We also did a village tour in Mto Wa Mbu and a bike ride to the lake on arrival day. Both were enjoyable, although be ready for bumpy roads :) On our final day on the mainland we did a day hike on Kilimanjaro with Saladin. He was an experienced guide who taught us a lot about Kilimanjaro and kept our son going when he started to feel the challenge. For our family, the combination of game drives and cultural and active experiences was perfect. Everything we had wanted to do was seen to and we'd happily book with Lion King again. Thanks for a memorable week!

From strangers to Family an amazing safari - We had an amazing safari tour with Benjamin and the Lion King Team. They clearly demonstrated that they knew what they were doing. I could just lean back, and Benjamin would do his magic. Everywhere we went, there were new and exciting animals to look at. Benjamin always got us the best view of the animals and always asked us if it was good or if we wanted to go a bit forward or backward. The most amazing thing we saw was probably a river crossing of the wildebeest, and it was all Benjamin's fault that we got to see it. We were in the front close by the river, but suddenly Benjamin and the car next to us backed up. We waited not even 5 minutes, and the wildebeests started going for the river exactly where we were prior. As Benjamin said, he drove back so the animals could cross because they did not like the cars being in front of them. But Benjamin knew that if he backed up, the animals would cross. But I think the best part was maybe not just that Benjamin found amazing animals like the sable cat hunting and the lion cubs nursing. The best part was the way we had fun with Benjamin. There were always jokes around, and as Benjamin said at the last dinner, 'we came as strangers and we leave as family.' I think that quote summarizes our safari really well. Yes, we did see all the animals; we saw the big five, we saw everything there was to see, but most importantly, we had loads of fun with the guide and family. Everyone in Tanzania took great care of us from start to finish, especially Benjamin. Every time we went to lunch, he made sure we did not hit our heads on the parasol. The car was always clean; we had the car named "Scar." It was also fun looking for other Lion King cars and seeing what names from the movie they had. We saw Mufasa, Simba, and many more. One of the amazing things about Benjamin was that while looking out for animals, he drove amazingly. Every time there was a bump, we thought the car would jump all over the place, but it didn't. He always made sure we got to the place comfortably. And at times when we needed to get somewhere quickly, he did it while still making sure it was comfortable. I would really recommend Lion King Adventures and Benjamin for your safari. It was an extraordinary experience, amazing both for seeing all the animals around us, the amazing country, and the fun time with him. If you ever go on a safari, go with Lion King and ask for Benjamin as your amazing safari guide.

Best safari in Tanzania! - I have just had the best vacation of my life. The Lion King guide, Benjamin, took care of everything from cleaning the car every day to arranging all our activities. We visited a lot of great national parks and stayed at great lodges. At one lodge we could even see an elephant from our terrace. We saw all the big five - at least two times. And so many more animals! Our guide was amazing at spotting animals and made sure to get us a great position to see them. He was also a very good driver. I highly recommend booking with Lion King and ask for the best guide - Benjamin!

If Safari, only with Lion King! - Our six-day safari with Lion King and our guide Suleiman exceeded all our expectations and wildest dreams. First of all, the organization and communication with the Office team worked smoothly and quickly in advance. We especially loved that the safari was tailored exactly to our wishes and needs, which would not have been possible with a German operator. My partner and I also had the superbly equipped safari vehicle completely to ourselves, which made the many times spent in the vehicle extremely comfortable. We even had a fridge filled daily fresh with water, beer, wine, juice and soft drinks for free and free use. In addition, there was a full and incredibly delicious picnic lunch every day (not just a sandwich from the lunchbox as with many other organizers), which our guide Suleiman lovingly served us even with a tablecloth. We felt like the kings. Also the lodges and tent camps we chose were beautiful and unique and the food there always tasted very good and the service was unique. Our safari would not have been half as beautiful without our GREAT guide Suleiman!!! Not only his outstanding competence in all matters relating to Tanzania’s flora and fauna, but also his insane empathy, his always good mood with the infectious laughter, his funny sayings (“always matata”) and his perseverance to always find the best animal spot for us (thanks to him we could even all see Big5 and the Great Migration!) impressed us deeply. We have learned an awful lot from him, not only about Tanzania's flora and fauna, but also about culture and people. In addition, Suleiman was always super organized, yet flexible and has always responded to our wishes and needs and made sure that we lacked nothing. He is also an excellent driver and has safely maneuvered our safari jeep through all weather-related adversities. We have taken him very much into our hearts in the few days. Asante sana, Rafiki! If Safari, only with Lion King and Suleiman! We will never forget this unique experience and hope to come back one day.

The spirit of genuine safari - We (me and my grandsons 15 and 18) just returned from our 9 day midrange wildebeest migration safari (we added an extra day to visit Lake Manyara Nat. Park) and had an amazing and wonderful time. From the very start I felt Lion King to be highly professional and responsive to my needs. They were the fastest to respond to my first request for information, and they responded in great detail. In the subsequent planning process they were very accommodating and made valuable suggestion. From our arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport onwards all arrangements were delivered without failure. All lodges and tented camps were great, exactly what I wanted for a safari with two teenagers: an adventure amidst the wildlife without luxury (I am sure Lion King does luxury very well too). A story on its own was our guide, Goodluck Lucas .. an incredible personality, highly sociable, in-depth knowledge of the wildlife, a good sense of humour and he connected really well with the boys. He was always ready to go the extra mile and thanks to him we saw the Big 5, including the elusive leopard on our last day, today, in Lake Manyara. Goodluck really "made" our safari and it was our good luck to have him as our guide. In brief: Lion King Adventures exceeded our expectations. I would recommend everyone planning a safari to read up on what Tanzania has on offer so you can decide what you want. Then tell the Lion King team your exact wishes and they will do the rest. Reliably, professionally and with a lot of dedication.

Fantastic Family Safari Trip - What a trip! We've just returned from a fantastic 8 day Safari. Lion King were fantastic from start to finish. Their communication from booking through to our arrival was great. Our guide Oswald was amazing. He couldn't have been kinder or more engaging to our three children (age 4,6,9) - really getting each of them to engage with the landscapes, animals and birds. His knowledge of the region, animals and birds was second to none. We saw all of the animals we were hoping to see (lions/leopards, etc) and more. Both Lion King and Oswald were really flexible when we wanted to make a small tweak to our itinerary - and it was sorted almost instantly. Thank you Oswald and Lion King Adventures - we wouldn't hesitate to recommend you!
