Chand Baori features 3,500 narrow steps across 13 stories, extending approximately 30 meters (100 feet) into the ground, making it one of the deepest and largest stepwells in India.
Rajasthan is a very arid state, and the design and construction of Chand Baori were aimed at conserving as much water as possible. At the bottom of the well, the air is 5-6 degrees cooler than at the surface, and Chand Baori served as a community gathering spot for locals during periods of extreme heat. One side of the well includes a pavilion and a resting room for the royals.
