- Alwathba Fossil Dunes - It is believed that the formation of the current fossil dunes in Abu Dhabi began millions of years ago when the area was submerged underwater. Sand and sediments settled at the bottom, naturally combining with calcium carbonate. Over time, pressure and heat solidified these materials. Once the water receded, the dunes were sculpted by essential air currents, resulting in their stunning architectural designs.
Please note that during the holy month of Ramadan (March to April), visiting hours at the Alwathba Fossil Dunes are limited to evening hours only, and the site will be closed during the first half of the day. Guests are kindly requested to consider this when booking a tour with us.
