• Abu Simbel Temple Complex - Abu Simbel is an archaeological site situated on the west bank of Lake Nasser, approximately 290 km southwest of Aswan. It is one of the “monuments of Nubia” included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, extending from Abu Simbel to Philae (near Aswan) along the river’s flow.

The twin temples were initially hewn from the mountains during the reign of King Ramses II in the 13th century BC, serving as a lasting tribute to him and Queen Nefertari, and to commemorate his victory at the Battle of Kadesh. In 1960, the entire complex was relocated to a new site on an artificial hill with a dome structure, above the Aswan High Dam reservoir.

The relocation was essential to prevent the temples from being submerged due to the creation of Lake Nasser.
