• National Museum of Ethiopia - Begin the city tour of Addis Ababa at the National Museum of Ethiopia, renowned for its exceptional quality and diverse exhibits. Among its archaeological displays is the 3.5 million-year-old fossil of Lucy (or Dinkinesh, meaning ‘thou art wonderful’ in the local language), a hominid woman of the Australopithecus Afarensis species. Lucy’s discovery in 1974 revolutionized our understanding of human ancestry, showing that our predecessors walked the earth 2.5 million years earlier than previously thought. The museum also houses remarkable artifacts from the pre-Axumite civilization.

Please note that the National Museum is closed on Mondays.

P.S. The National Museum is currently closed for renovations for an indefinite period. However, the tour will adapt by visiting the Addis Ababa Museum instead.

• Yekatit 12 Martyrs Square - Located near Addis Ababa University and the Lion Zoo, Yekatit 12 Martyrs Square Monument holds significant historical importance.
• Meyazia 27 Square Monument - Also known as Dillachin (Victory Monument), this historic site features a Lion of Judah and a circle of relief figures and monumental panels celebrating Ethiopia’s liberation.
• Chiromeda Market - Before heading to Mount Entoto, there is an optional stop at Chiromeda Market, offering a variety of traditional clothing such as dresses, shawls, scarves, bed covers, napkins, and men’s shirts, all locally handmade.

• Mount Entoto - The tour continues uphill to Entoto, once the permanent camp of Emperor Menelik II. The ascent offers a significant drop in altitude, with the air scented by the eucalyptus trees that blanket the area. From the summit, enjoy a panoramic view of the capital and surrounding countryside. Please note that the entrance fee to Entoto Park is not included; entry costs 20 USD per person.
• Ethnological Museum - The tour proceeds with a visit to the Ethnological Museum, located within the Addis Ababa University compound. Unlike the National Museum, this museum offers an equally captivating experience with a diverse collection of artifacts and everyday objects from various Ethiopian ethnic groups.
• Mercato Market - After lunch, the city tour continues with a visit to Merkato, Africa’s largest open-air market, where nearly every imaginable commodity is available.
• Itegue Taitu Hotel | Piazza - Enjoy lunch at the oldest hotel in Ethiopia, established in 1898 E.C. The Taitu Hotel offers a variety of options, including a renowned vegan buffet, with the possibility to order from the menu.

• St. George’s Cathedral - The tour proceeds to St. George’s Cathedral, one of Addis Ababa’s oldest and most vibrant churches.
• Tiglachin Memorial - The Tiglachin Memorial honors Ethiopian and Cuban soldiers who participated in the Ogaden War. It was constructed under Mengistu Haile Mariam on Churchill Avenue in Addis Ababa.
