- National Museum of Ethiopia - Begin the city tour of Addis Ababa at the National Museum of Ethiopia, renowned for its exceptional quality and diverse exhibits. Among the archaeological displays is the 3.5 million-year-old fossil of Lucy (or Dinkinesh, meaning ‘thou art wonderful’ in the local language), a hominid woman of the species Australopithecus Afarensis. Lucy’s discovery in 1974 revolutionized the understanding of human ancestry, revealing that our predecessors walked the earth 2.5 million years earlier than previously believed. The museum also houses remarkable artifacts from the pre-Axumite civilization.
Ps. Please note that the National Museum is currently closed for renovations for an indefinite period. As an alternative, the tour will include a visit to the Addis Ababa Museum. Thank you for your understanding!
