- Mount Entoto - Welcome to Ethiopia! Upon your arrival, whether at the airport or your hotel, we will greet you and provide a fresh perspective on Addis Ababa, often regarded as the African Capital City/Headquarters. Our journey typically begins with a drive to Mount Entoto, the highest point in the Entoto Mountains, offering a panoramic view of the city. This allows you the flexibility to stop and explore anything that catches your interest along the way, and we are delighted to answer any questions you may have. The mountain stands at 3,200 meters above sea level and is densely populated with eucalyptus trees, imported from Australia during Menelik II’s reign and largely planted during Emperor Haile Selassie’s era. It is sometimes called the “lung of Addis Ababa” due to its dense forest, which serves as a vital source of firewood and historically provided building materials for the city.
- Shiro Meda Market - At Shiro Meda market, visitors can stroll through or purchase vibrant, handwoven scarves and dresses for both men and women, crafted from cotton and adorned with colorful embroidery. If time permits, visitors can explore small startups in the yellow condominium, where these traditional Ethiopian garments are woven. This stop highlights local craftsmanship, and you may enjoy negotiating for the best price if something catches your eye.
- National Museum of Ethiopia - This museum offers an excellent introduction to Ethiopia’s history, culture, and people. It features various collections, including antiques, crafts, contemporary paintings, and archaeological discoveries from across the nation. The museum is also home to the famous and ancient (3.2 million years old) human skeleton fossil, LUCY. We offer a complimentary guided tour for those interested in learning more about the museum’s treasures, which are considered the city’s pride. Please note that the National Museum is closed on Mondays, in which case we will substitute this experience with a visit to the Ethnological Museum. This museum, located in the former palace of the great Emperor Haile Selassie, is sure to impress you with its historical significance.
- Gerji - This is the most culturally immersive stop on the tour, situated in the heart of the city, where you will participate in a cooking class featuring authentic Ethiopian cuisine! By this point, you will likely be hungry, so enjoy a traditional meal with significant health benefits. Injera, for example, is a gluten-free pancake made from fermented Teff flour, beloved by Ethiopians for its lightness and digestive properties. You will learn how to prepare and enjoy it with vitamin and protein-rich Ethiopian sides like Shero and more. The experience begins with a shopping trip to gather ingredients, during which we will explain their significance. Enjoy a lunch you create alongside an experienced chef, who will guide you through the process. This fun, private, and hands-on experience rewards you with a delicious meal to take home by the end of the day.
- Addis Ababa - This is a special secret of ours, where we take you to an exclusive viewpoint. Overlooking the city of Addis with a luxurious 360-degree view, while still being in the heart of it, you will undoubtedly be tempted to capture some scenic photographs.
