  • Wench’ī Hāyk’ - Begin your day with a 150-kilometer drive west of Addis Ababa to reach Wenchi Crater Lake, situated at an elevation of approximately 3000 meters (10,000 feet) in the crater of an extinct volcano in the Oromia region. After paying the entrance and parking fees and hiring a mandatory guide at the office, drive uphill for a kilometer to the starting point. From there, you can either hike the 4 kilometers to the lake shore or descend on horseback. The downhill journey is adorned with diverse greenery on the hillsides and the lake’s surface. After about an hour and passing through a couple of villages, a field opens up to the shore and a small dock. Here, you can enjoy mule riding, hiking, and a boat trip.

An extinct volcano, the top of which is 3380 meters above sea level, is a crater that contains a large lake, hot mineral springs, waterfalls, beautiful valleys and farmland.
