Mercato Market - Upon arriving at Bole International Airport, you’ll clear immigration and proceed to baggage claim. After collecting your checked bags, you’ll clear customs and pass through the arrival hall, where a FINOT TOUR ETHIOPIA representative will meet you and assist with your transfer to your hotel. After a break in the afternoon, you’ll enjoy a half-day guided tour of the Ethnological Museum, which features artifacts and displays of the cultures and handicrafts of Ethiopia’s many ethnic groups. At the renowned National Museum, home to cultural and archaeological relics, you’ll visit the famous “Lucy,” a 3.2 million-year-old female hominid discovered in Ethiopia’s Awash Valley in 1974. You’ll also drive through the open-air market of Addis, the Mercato, the largest on the continent. Time permitting, you may also visit Ba’ata Church, also known as Menelik’s Mausoleum, one of the oldest churches in Addis, built in 1911. The church houses beautiful paintings and the royal tombs of past emperors, including Emperor Haileselassie.
Drive to Aribaminch
Dorze Village - Starting early in the morning from Addis Ababa, you’ll head south to Arbaminch via Butajira and Hosaina. At Tiya, you’ll have a brief stop to visit the UNESCO-registered Stele fields. After a lunch break at Wolayita Sodo, you’ll proceed to Arbaminch, arriving in the late afternoon. En route, you’ll ascend into the Gughe Mountains to visit the Dorze people. About an hour before reaching Arbaminch, at an altitude of 1400 m, you’ll visit the highland village of Dorze at 2600 m, enjoying beautiful views over Lake Abaya and Lake Chamo along the way. The Dorze people are known for their tall beehive-like houses, fine cotton weaving, and the preparation of their staple food made from false banana, which you’ll have the opportunity to try. Market days in Dorze village are Mondays and Thursdays, and in Chencha on Tuesdays and Saturdays. After the visit, you’ll drive back to Arbaminch.

Konso Cultural Centre - After an early breakfast, you’ll leave Jinka and drive to a Mursi village to appreciate the unique culture of the Mursi tribe. The women of the Mursi tribe are known for the custom of having their lower lips slit and circular clay discs inserted upon reaching maturity. You’ll then drive to the Key Afer Tribal Market, one of the best markets in the Omo Valley, where at least four different tribes come to attend the weekly market. Upon arrival in the small town, a local guide will escort you around the market, exploring different sections including animal, vegetable, and cereal stalls, among others. You’ll then continue driving back to Konso for an overnight stay.
