Head south from Addis Ababa through Butajira.

Hawssa - Upon arrival at Bole International Airport, a warm welcome awaits, followed by a transfer to the hotel. The activities will then commence.

Day 1
Travel south from Addis Ababa via Butajira. Along the route, explore the archaeological sites of Tiya (an ancient stelae field and UNESCO World Heritage Site), Adadi Maryam (a rock-hewn church akin to those in Lalibela), and Melka Kunture (a prehistoric tool-making site). The final destination for the day is Awassa. Overnight stay in an Awassa hotel.

Journey from Lake Awassa to Dorze Villages

Dorze Village - Day 2
After breakfast, visit the fish market on the shores of Lake Awassa, then drive to Dorze, located in the highlands above Arba Minch. The Dorze people are renowned for their tall, beehive-like houses and exquisite cotton weaving. Visit the village to learn about the daily lives of these industrious people. If it is a market day (in Dorze village on Monday and Thursday, and in nearby Chencha on Tuesday and Saturday), it will be included in the visit. Overnight stay in a traditional Dorze hut (with shared toilet facilities) or continue to Arba Minch for an overnight stay at Ezana Hotel.

Travel from Arbaminch to Turmi

Turmi - Day 3
In the morning, head to Arba Minch for a boat trip on Lake Chamo to see the “crocodile market” and local hippos. Then, depart from Arba Minch to Turmi. En route, pass through the village of Weyto (market day Saturday), home to the Tsemai tribe. Continue through the Weyto Valley to Erbore for a brief visit to a local Erbore village (market day is Saturday). Finally, proceed to Turmi, home of the Hamer tribe. In the evening, witness the traditional night dancing of the Hamer tribe, known as evangadi. Overnight stay at Turmi Lodge.

Travel to Jinka, via Dimeka

Jinka - Day 5
Travel to Jinka, via Dimeka and Key Afar. Tuesdays and Saturdays are market days in Dimeka, one of the most vibrant markets in the area, attracting many tribes, including Hamer, Benna, and Karo. Continue to Jinka afterward. Overnight stay at Jinka Resort.

Drive through Mago National Park to a Mursi tribe village

Mago National Park - In the morning, drive through Mago National Park to a Mursi tribe village. The Mursi are famous for their lower lip and earlobe plates. In the afternoon, return to Jinka to visit the South Omo Museum & Research Center to learn more about the local tribes. Alternatively, hike in the surrounding hills to visit a local Ari village. Overnight stay at Jinka Resort.

Travel from Jinka to Arba Minch via Key Afar and Konso.

Arba Minch - Day 7
After breakfast, travel from Jinka to Arba Minch via Key Afar and Konso. Thursday is market day in Key Afar, where the Benna and Tsemai tribes trade goods. This is another popular market in the region. After the visit, proceed to Konso (market days are Mondays and Thursdays). The Konso people are known for their wooden statues, called wakas, erected in honor of deceased heroes, and their innovative agricultural terracing. Today, there will be a brief opportunity to visit a local village and the cultural museum displaying many waka statues. After the visit, continue driving to Arba Minch. Overnight stay at Arba Minch Ezana Hotel.

Depart from Arba Minch for a full day’s drive to Addis Ababa.

Addis Ababa - Early in the morning, depart from Arba Minch for a full day’s drive to Addis Ababa. Along the way, there may be time to visit one of the following archaeological sites of interest:

The lower Omo Valley in southern Ethiopia is home to some of the world’s last unaltered cultural groups.
