Highlights

Day 1: Adelaide to Kangaroo Island

Adelaide Central Bus Station Franklin St - Today, an early start is required to catch your SeaLink bus transfer from Adelaide CBD to the ferry terminal at Cape Jervis.

Cape Jervis - Board the ferry for a 45-minute cruise to Penneshaw on Kangaroo Island. Your Untamed Escapes Guide will meet you here and give you an overview of the adventure ahead for the next few days.

Pennington Bay - Hop on board the bus and take a scenic coastal drive to Pennington Bay on the island’s south coast. With powerful swells rolling in, this beach is famed for its epic surf breaks. Climb the 500 steps to the top of Prospect Hill, the highest point on Kangaroo Island, for rewarding views and to get your bearings.

Clifford’s Honey Farm - Kangaroo Island is the world’s oldest bee sanctuary and is home to the only pure strain of Ligurian Bee in the world. Pop into Clifford’s Honey to learn all about these fascinating creatures and, of course, do a tasting.

Dudley Wines - Next, visit family-owned Dudley Wines, where you can sprawl out on their lush lawns and take in the incredible views over the ocean – the perfect place to relax and connect with your fellow travellers.

Antechamber Bay - Come late afternoon, arrive at our eco-campsite, aptly named “Happiness”. Featuring private access to one of Kangaroo Island’s most stunning beaches – Antechamber Bay, you’ll be right at home here for the next two nights. Enjoy some free time to relax or take a walk down to the beach.

Tonight, roll out your swag underneath the billions of stars of the Milky Way and feel an incredible connection with nature.

Today we drive approximately 240 km.

Kangaroo Island

Flinders Chase National Park - Today, we’ll set our coordinates for the iconic Flinders Chase National Park, located at the northwestern point of the island. This park is renowned for its rock formations, impressive beaches, and abundant wildlife.

At Admirals Arch, wander along a boardwalk as you soak up the serenity and keep your eyes peeled for the resident New Zealand fur seals. Marvel at the Remarkable Rocks, shaped by nature for over 500 million years. Take a bush walk at Weirs Cove before a picnic lunch to refuel.

Seal Bay Conservation Park - After lunch, it’s time for an incredible wildlife encounter. Seal Bay is home to the third-largest colony of endangered Australian sea lions, with around 800 calling the bay home. Join a 45-minute tour with the National Parks & Wildlife guides, who know pretty much everything there is to know about these beautiful creatures. Follow a boardwalk through the dunes down to the beach, and on the way, pass sea lions snoozing or even lying in the middle of the beach path and learn about conservation efforts to save this endangered species.

Antechamber Bay - After a full day, head back towards camp to reflect and relax over dinner before rolling out your swag and counting shooting stars.

Today, we drive approximately 340 km.

Day 3: Kangaroo Island to Adelaide

Stokes Bay - Start the final day of your tour with a morning bush walk not far from camp, and after packing up, we’ll bid farewell to Happiness. Along the quiet north coast of the island, find spectacular bird life in the lagoon’s shallow, calm waters and trees. Here, we will find a spot to have our final meal together, followed by a nice stroll along the water, looking for the many different species that inhabit the American River.
In the warmer months, weave your way through a labyrinth of caves before emerging at the beach voted best in Australia in 2023 – Stokes Bay. If the weather is right, enjoy some free time to snorkel among the rock pools or soak up the surrounding landscape.

Kingscote - The National Trust of South Australia cares for the world’s natural and built heritage and relies on the support of volunteers to protect and preserve special places. So, this afternoon, roll up your sleeves for some conservation volunteering at Zelling Reserve—an important wildflower sanctuary preserving native flora on the eastern end of Kangaroo Island. Our activity depends on the time of year but could involve collecting seeds, weeding or planting trees whilst learning from their passionate volunteers.

Penneshaw - After a fabulous Kangaroo Island tour, arrive in Penneshaw for your 5.30 pm ferry back to the mainland. Once you arrive in Cape Jervis, your SeaLink bus connection will have you back in Adelaide at 9 pm.

Fantastic introduction to Kangaroo Island - My friend and I had a fantastic time on this three day tour! We saw wild kangaroos, wallabies, koalas, sea lions, and geckos - and we were lucky enough to see an echidna, too. The stops were all enjoyable and there was a pleasant amount of walking involved. Our guide, Gianna, was as personable as she was professional and catered expertly to every tourgoer's needs. Recommended, especially for those who have never been to Kangaroo Island before!

More than just recommended - an absolute highlight - We saw a lot of animals. My highlights were the visit to the seal colony and the one with the volunteers at a rescue center for injured animals, where we were able to feed young kangaroos. But the koalas, where we stopped on a tip, and the echidna that crossed the road on the day of our arrival were also absolutely amazing. On our trip, the tour guide had just finished training his successor. This meant that we had two tour guides, both of whom were more than average and provided an unforgettable experience and additional information. If I had six stars to give, I would give six.

Nature, wildlife pure! Highly recommended - Can highly recommend. Was nervous about the swags, but perfectly fine and safe on an private camp site. Our guide Gianna did an amazing job. Safe driving, watching out for us to drink enough and not forget sunscreen. It was a fun group. We saw lots of wildlife which I loved, as I was hoping for that. Took nice beach swims as well. And even a flat tire Gianna handled so well, I was impressed.

So many experiences packed in three days! - What an amazing trip! From beginning to end, I was impressed by Untamed Escapes. The people in the booking office were great, responding promptly to all of my queries and it felt like they truly cared about their customers. Our guide, Brendan, was superb! He was energetic, knowledgeable, funny and engaging. He added personalized touches that made the trip feel quite unique and memorable. It felt like we were one big family, participating in setups and meal preparations. We saw multiple animals and took in many beautiful sites. Sleeping amongst the stars in our swags was certainly a different experience, but one that I am more than glad I did. Would highly recommend the tour!

Amazing trip! - This trip was amazing! I had the best time! And as a solo traveller it was a great bunch with a mixture of people who were all so lovely! The tour was packed full and I think it could be even better if it was a 4 day tour to fit a bit more in and spend a little longer at places. The guides were amazing and food was so good and dietary needs were SO well catered for! Would highly recommend!

Great experience and guide - Had a great as a family touring the Kangaroo Island with Untamed Escapes! Our guide Emily was very knowledgeable, fun and caring! She wanted everyone of us to get the best experience on this tour and we did! We also like the structure of the tour where a bit of conservation work was included. Will definitely recommend this to others.

Not much of an Adventure tour - It was ok, Tour says adventure tour however there wasn’t much adventure, mainly visited gift shops which was pretty boring specially for people who is traveling last thing we want is buy extra stuff and smell candles, only one that should be kept on the tour is the winery, the seals and remarkable rocks definitely a highlight, but that’s it, remove all the gift shops from the tour and include more wildlife and actual adventures like hikes, felt like we were just driving for ages to go from shop to shop, which is pretty tiring, couldn’t do the volunteering so should have a back up plan for it too, food was good, just the house toilet has a really bad smell so that should be sort out too.
