Highlights

Adelaide to Flinders Ranges

Port Wakefield - Your eight-day outback adventure kicks off in Adelaide at 5.30 am, where you’ll meet your Storyteller Guide. After a coffee stop at the coastal town of Port Wakefield, enjoy some breathtaking views at Hancock’s Lookout.

Quorn - A bit further along, we reach the outback town of Quorn. Stretch your legs and check out the famous Pichi Richi Railway and some unique silo art.

Arkaroo Rock - Following a lunch break at Hawker, arrive at Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park and set off on a rewarding hike at Arkaroo Rock, a culturally significant site for the local Adnyamathanha people.

Skytrek Willow Springs Station - This afternoon, arrive at Skytrek Willow Springs Station. This 70,000-acre working sheep station offers secluded bush camping and serves as our base while we explore the Flinders Ranges. After a delicious dinner prepared by your Guide, relax and enjoy a front-row seat to one of the most spectacular light shows on Earth. The Flinders Ranges is renowned for having some of the clearest skies in the Southern Hemisphere. So, why not opt for an optional stargazing experience with an expert astronomer and physicist? Take a short drive from camp and, using a 10-inch reflecting telescope, view constellations, globular clusters, nebulae, and the planets Saturn and Jupiter. Experiences range from $90 to $190 per person and can be arranged with your Guide on the day.

Tonight, roll out your swag under a blanket of stars twinkling over the ancient landscape.

The driving distance today is approximately 510km.

Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park

Skytrek Willow Springs Station - With a deeper understanding of Aboriginal culture, spend the rest of the afternoon exploring more of the ancient Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park. Take in the incredible outback views on the Buneryoo Scenic Drive. And at Brachina Gorge, we might spot some rare yellow-footed rock wallabies if we’re lucky. After bushwalking and connecting with nature, relax around the campfire with dinner and stories with your newfound friends.
Driving time today is approximately 3 hours.

Flinders Ranges to William Creek via the Oodnadatta Track*

William Creek - By late afternoon, arrive in the tiny outback settlement of William Creek. In the middle of nowhere, on the way to somewhere, this quirky town with a population of ten is an icon of the South Australian Outback. After dinner, you might like to enjoy a cold drink in the heritage-listed William Creek Hotel, which opened in 1887. Then curl up in your swag under the stars in the campground.

William Creek to Coober Pedy

Coober Pedy - The rest of the day is yours to do as you please, and there’s plenty to explore. Stay in a unique underground bunkhouse tonight and have dinner at one of the many underground eateries.
Today, the driving distance is approximately 170km.

Coober Pedy to Watarrka/Kings Canyon

Kings Canyon - Then, crossing into the Northern Territory, continue to Watarrka National Park, the site of Kings Canyon.
By late afternoon, arrive at our campsite at the Kings Creek Station. Relax, soak up the serenity, and, on warmer days, enjoy a swim in the pool. Have your camera ready for a stunning desert sunset from the sunset viewing platform before dinner at the Station restaurant eatery and settling in for the night.
Today, we drive approximately 770km.

Watarrka/Kings Canyon to Uluru

Kings Canyon - It’s an early start this morning for the mesmerizing Kings Canyon Rim Walk, which is guaranteed to be one of the most magical experiences of your life. With its 300-metre-high sandstone walls, hidden waterholes, fern forests, chasms, canyons, and caverns, Watarrka National Park is central Australia’s answer to an oasis. Take in the 360-degree views and journey through Priscilla’s Crack, made famous by the classic Australian movie Priscilla Queen of the Desert. From there, see the sandstone domes known as the Lost City and the lush greenery and watering hole of the aptly named Garden of Eden.

Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park - After lunch, rest your legs on the drive to our final destination, Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. Late this afternoon, watch an unforgettable sunset over Uluru before retreating to camp for dinner.

Ayers Rock Campground - Roll out your swag upon the red Earth and under billions of stars after dinner at camp.

Driving today is approximately 350km.

Uluru

Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park - An early start is rewarded with a mesmerizing Kata Tjuta sunrise. Translating to the Pitjantjatjara word for ‘Many Heads’, the 36 domes of Kata Tjuta are a defining feature of the Red Centre landscape both topographically and spiritually. Rising 546 metres above the surrounding plain, its tip is the highest point for miles, while the site’s ridges and ravines are closely connected with numerous Indigenous creation-time stories. Many of these stories are kept secret from outsiders, but you’ll learn a little about the local Anangu culture and appreciate the beauty of their land on a rewarding hike on the Valley of the Winds Walk.

Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park - This afternoon, experience a fun and inspiring dot painting workshop with a talented local Anangu artist and interpreter. During this wonderful 1.5-hour authentic experience, you will learn about ancient symbols used in Anangu art and teachings and will be taught some introductory Pitjantjatjara words (the local language spoken by Anangu). Use this knowledge to create your own artwork to take home and treasure forever.

Ayers Rock Campground - Afterwards, visit the Cultural Centre to deepen your understanding of Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. You can learn about Anangu culture and the park’s natural environment through exhibits and free presentations with Anangu and park rangers.
Today, we drive around 180km.

Yulara

Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park - Rising early, breathe deep and soak up the serenity of a sunrise over Uluru. As the sunlight plays with the landscape, the rock formations change colour before your eyes. Next, it’s time to get close to this natural wonder. At 348 metres high and some 550 million years old, feel a powerful presence the moment you set eyes on it. A guided 10km Uluru base walk is your best opportunity to connect with Uluru and learn its stories. Relax beside tranquil waterholes, take a break under a magnificent Sheoak tree and peer into hidden caves. Shorter walks are available for those who do not want to do the whole base walk.
Your outback adventure ends in the late morning on our return to the Desert Gardens Resort in Yulara. For those departing from Uluru Airport, complimentary transfers are available from the resort. There are also bus transfers from Yulara to Alice Springs. See the Know Before You Go information below to learn more.

Swags, stars, hikes, culture, adventure. - This trip was spectacular. Jack, our guide was amazing and created the most inclusive atmosphere. Highly recommend! From swag camping under the stars in Ikara Flinders Ranges, to the oddities of the Outback desert, the magnificent Valley of the Winds in Kata Tjuta and Uluru, this trip is a delight. Jack has a great respect for Aboriginal culture and stories, a respect for the land, a knowledge of geology and gives 110% to make sure his guests experience the magic and rawness of the Aussie outback and country in all its glory.

An unforgettable experience - This tour was one of the best things I've done in my time in Australia. We started in Adelaide and travelled through some really amazing places in a slept on South Australia to Uluru. The tour was really well organised, with so much to do it was busy but also really relaxed. Cost of the tour may seem high but with most food included we spent very little for the week! We got to see the most unique landscapes and wildlife in a lovely small group setting. The camping facilities were great and the swags comfy. The food provided was amazing with plenty of variety unlike other tours I've been on. The standout of the tour was our guide Jack.He went above and beyond at all times for us to answer the most difficult questions we threw at him! He was extremely informative and passionate, which made the tour a real experience rather than just a trip to see the sights. He was brilliant with any issues and most importantly was a great laugh and we all had so much fun. I would highly recommend untamed and Jack for a real once in lifetime experience.

8 Day Adelaide to Uluru - 8 Day Adelaide to Uluru with Untamed was a wonderful tour. Started with an easy and helpful contact with the office, continued with a graet trip and finished with valuable memories and experiences. The tour was interestingly planned and very reasonably priced. The views - stunning and calming. Our tour guide Jack was such a good leader - very well prepared, organised, attentive, easy-going and a good cook - in two words a friendly professional. What else can you wish for? Add five fine companions to it and a great holiday is what you get. Thank you Untamed for making it possible. Thank you Jack and Girls for making it unforgettable. Marta

The best week ever! - This was an unforgettable adventure! A perfect mix of culture, nature, peace, excitement and adventure. Excellent value for money. The pace and balance of hikes, social and rest time was ideal. This was all made even better by our guide Jack!! Jack was thoughtful, organised and informative about all the places we went. It was obvious he had genuine interest and care for the towns we visited and the natural environment. Our family meals were great too and we had a lot of laughs. Being a solo traveller I felt really safe on this trip with Jack and will definitely consider doing another untamed tour in the future!

Best Experience I’ve Ever Had!!!! <3 - The Untamed Escapes Adelaide to Uluru trip was one of the best experiences I have ever had, 100% a once in a lifetime opportunity to see some incredibly beautiful locations within the Aussie Outback with so many hidden gems along the way & meet wonderful people whose connections & memories will last a lifetime!!! From the start our group bonded instantly, we were solo travellers from all over & everyone had so much to share from our different travel experiences! Our tour guide Eli was the magic behind the mission- he was extremely warm and welcoming to everyone & you could see he was passionate about the cultural history & knowledge he shared with the group along with just making the entire experience so much fun!!! We were all constantly in fits of laughter but also appreciated the moments where we could all sit in quiet and appreciate the beauty of the sites we were visiting. We were treated to two nights stay in an underground bunkhouse in Coober Pedy due to Oodnadatta Track Closures, it felt like luxury! But sleeping under the stars was defs the highlight along with cooking yummy dinners together with our wonderful group!!! Having this as my first group travelling experience has certainly set my expectations high, I’ll always remember this tour, the friendships made and our wonderful guide Eli. Thank you!!!!

Such an amazing tour - couldn’t recommend more! - Wow! What a fabulous week that was!! I did the Untamed Escapes Adelaide—>Uluru 8-day tour and it completely outdid my expectations. Our guide, Gianna, was absolutely amazing - kind, chatty, funny - truly more like a friend than a guide. She was also really knowledgable, especially about Uluru, having taken a 127-hour long course to learn about the indigenous culture and history of Uluru in order to speak about it in the most respectful and knowledgable way she could. Her passion and respect for all of the sites we visited was evident - it was fascinating to learn some of the creation stories and histories of both Uluru and the other places we visited, like the Wilpena Pound. I knew Uluru would be amazing but didn’t expect to enjoy the rest so much too - it was really cool to explore the mining town of Cooper Pedy, the beautiful Flinders Ranges, and the Kings Canyon. Only thing to beware of: the swags which you sleep in aren’t the mini tents which google images shows, they’re actually quite literally canvas bags on the floor which have a (surprisingly comfy) mattress in them and which you lie in with your sleeping bag. Your face is out exposed to the night (though there is a little cover flap if you choose), so make sure to wrap up really warmly and bring tons of layers as it was really cold on some of the nights. However, beautiful views of the night sky! Couldn’t recommend this tour more - made such good friends in the short time, ate delicious food (thanks G!), and learnt so much about indigenous culture. As well as the sheer beauty of all the places we saw! So much fun. 🤩

Amazing tour! - I had an amazing trip from Adelaide to Uluru. We saw all the important highlights and many more, did some great hikes and saw a lot of sunsets and sunrises. Our tourguide Eli was an excellent tourguide. He managed everything very well despite the challenging weather conditions. He created also a nice vibe in the group. Credits for him and it was definitely worth the money!
