Experience Adelaide from a unique perspective by taking a cruise along The Torrens River in the heart of the city aboard the heritage vessel, The Popeye. This 40-50 minute journey includes live commentary from our friendly skipper, offering insights into the historical significance of the River Torrens and the development of Adelaide, one of the world’s most liveable cities.
During the cruise, you’ll pass landmarks such as the Festival Center, Adelaide’s SAHMRI building, scenic parklands, and Adelaide University, among others.
Feel free to ask questions and take advantage of the many picturesque photo opportunities.
- The Popeye isn’t conventionally wheelchair accessible BUT if patrons are prepared for 6 steps up, over and into the boat with handrails it is possible. The Skipper will lend assistance. This may be difficult for those with walking disabilities or using a wheelchair
- Seats are assigned as general admission with a capactiy of 48 passangers per boat. Avaliablity will not be known in advance of the cruise time. Popeye operates on a ‘first come first served basis’.
- Subject to favourable weather conditions. If canceled due to poor weather, you will be given the option of an alternative date or time

Relaxing river cruise - Lovely cruise along the river, good commentary, family business worth supporting. Very relaxing, snacks available onboard, stopped at the zoo and was picked up when the Popeye next passed by and returned us to original stop. Recommend this tour to see Adelaide in a brief time.

Beautiful experience. Driver was super lovely also. He had alot of information about the river and surrounding buildings - Beautiful infrastructure of buildings , all the lovely native wildlife and the turtle we were blessed to see.

Fun on the Popeye - Glad we went on the Popeye Cruise down the Torrens River. What is great is they don’t pack too many passengers on the cruise. Lovely view of Adelaide City from a different angle and Captain provided lots of information about the river and the bridges and history of Popeye Boat. The 2 staff were helpful, friendly and polite. Wish the cruise could be a bit longer.
The Oz Asia Fest was a bonus … thanks! We enjoyed it very much.

Nice and relaxing. To do. - Small 45 min walk on the Torrens. Captain at the top, kindness and professionalism. Plenty of information about the history of Adelaide and nice anecdotes. The walk itself makes us see the pretty banks of the Torrens with its animals: birds and turtles (if you are lucky!) Relaxing and relaxing ride on a small boat on a human scale with the possibility of drinking and snacking. To do for young and old.

Recommended family fun for little cost - We had a very enjoyable experience with the Popeye Torrens river cruise. 10 family members gave the thumbs up to this cruise, the commentary and the staff. It was a fair price for a family outing while in Adelaide. Thank you to all involved, you gave us knowledge, you made us laugh and you made us feel special the whole trip. we loved it !!

Have a nice ride on the river - My English is not good enough, so I didn’t fully understand the captain’s comments. Perhaps with support such as an app where we could use translators in the language that suits us would be a plus. Apart from that, it was perfect: very friendly and cheerful crew.

November 2024 Popeye boat tour Adelaide - A very nice tour on the river with many beautiful views of downtown Adelaide. The guides were knowledgeable and very friendly. We got off at the Adelaide Zoo and reboarded after a couple of hours for the rest of the return trip. Would recommend.

Pleasant - This is a nice thing to do on a warm day - you don't travel very far but you do get a idea of some of the history of Adelaide, how it's developed, what's happening/events and right by the Adelaide CG. Thought we'd be offered a tea/coffee as part of the package, would have been nice on our morning trip but this wasn't forthcoming and assume you had to ask and pay extra. Still, pleasant enough trip in a beautiful city.
