Located on a plain prone to flooding, Cairns lies just south of where the formidable Barron River discharges into the ocean. Stretching over 65 kilometers, the Barron River wends its way through the nutrient-rich volcanic terrain of the Atherton Tablelands, meanders past the charming community of Kuranda, tumbles forcefully down the 850-foot Barron Falls, and finally merges with the waters of the Coral Sea.

The Barron Gorge is a spectacular natural formation cleaved from the Great Dividing Range, with the Barron Falls at its pinnacle presenting a formidable sight, especially when they roar with the torrential rains of the monsoon season. This picturesque helicopter journey takes you through the Barron Gorge, soaring over the Barron Falls, gliding past the internationally acclaimed Skyrail Rainforest Cableway as it crosses the river, circling the town of Kuranda, and then turning seaward. As we descend along the verdant eastern slopes of the Great Dividing Range, passengers are treated to sweeping vistas of Cairns and the panoramic expanse of the Reef.
