Setting Sail from Brazil

The anticipation was palpable as I boarded the flight from Brazil to Cartagena, the gateway to Colombia’s Caribbean treasures. As someone who has spent countless hours riding the waves and exploring the hidden gems of the Caribbean, I was eager to see what Zimbros Ecotour had in store. The promise of white sand beaches and crystal-clear waters was enough to lure me away from my usual surfboard and into the heart of this adventure.

Upon arrival, the vibrant energy of Cartagena enveloped me. The old Walled City, with its historic charm and stunning sunset views at Café del Mar, was the perfect introduction to the city’s rich culture. As I wandered through the colorful streets of Barrio Getsemani, I couldn’t help but feel a deep connection to the rhythm of the city, much like the ocean’s ebb and flow that I know so well.

Island Hopping and Ocean Wonders

The next leg of the journey took us to the Rosario Islands, a paradise for any ocean lover. The boat trip around the islands was a dream come true, with stops at secluded beaches and vibrant coral reefs. Snorkeling in these waters was like diving into a living painting, with schools of fish darting around in a kaleidoscope of colors. It was a reminder of why I fell in love with the ocean in the first place.

Our visit to the Oceanario was both educational and inspiring. Learning about marine life preservation efforts resonated with my own passion for the sea. The overnight stay on Isla Grande, in a seaside hotel, was the perfect way to unwind after a day of exploration. Falling asleep to the sound of waves gently lapping the shore was a familiar comfort that made me feel right at home.

Cultural Riches and Farewell

Back in Cartagena, the exploration continued with a visit to the Castillo de San Felipe de Barajas and the Museo Historico de Cartagena de Indias. The history and stories of these places added depth to the vibrant culture I had experienced throughout the trip. Walking through the Walled City, I couldn’t resist picking up a few souvenirs to remember this incredible journey.

As the trip came to an end, I reflected on the unforgettable experiences and the new friends made along the way.
