- Shai Hills Resource Reserve - Situated in the Shai Osudoku District within the Greater Accra Region, the Shai Hills Resource Reserve was designated a Forest Reserve in 1962, initially covering 47 square kilometers, and later expanded to 51 square kilometers in 1973. It became a Game Production Reserve in 1971. This protected area was once inhabited by the Shai people until their displacement by the British in 1892. Remnants of the Shai people’s activities can still be observed within the reserve. The reserve features a mosaic of forest covering five distinct hills. A variety of animals and over 172 bird species have been recorded in the area.
The reserve also includes the Manya Ancestral home, the second largest settlement and the second highest hill in the Reserve. Along the 1,200-meter trail, visitors can find artifacts over 150 years old, offering a glimpse into the history of the Shai people.
A guide will lead a short hike to showcase the highlights of Shai Hills. Please wear comfortable closed-toe shoes.
- Pont Adomi A Atimpoku - The Adomi Bridge, originally known as the Volta Bridge, is a latticed steel arch suspension bridge that spans the Volta River at Atimpoku in Ghana, West Africa. It is the first permanent bridge to cross the Volta River, which flows south into the Gulf of Guinea, and is Ghana’s longest suspension bridge. It serves as the main road link, just south of the Akosombo Dam, between the Eastern Region and the Volta Region of Ghana. The bridge was inaugurated in 1957 by Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first president. This iconic crescent-shaped arch bridge is depicted on Ghanaian stamps and currency.
Visitors will park and walk over to enjoy the breathtaking views, capturing photos and videos before proceeding to the next destination.
- Akosombo - Upon arrival in Akosombo, guests will board a waiting boat for a one-hour cruise.
The cruise will feature music, vibrant atmosphere, and the stunning scenery of Lake Volta.
The journey will lead to the impressive Volta Dam. The Akosombo Dam, also known as the Volta Dam, is a hydroelectric dam on the Volta River in southeastern Ghana, located in the Akosombo gorge and managed by the Volta River Authority. The dam’s construction flooded part of the Volta River Basin, resulting in the creation of Lake Volta, the largest man-made lake in the world by surface area.
