BEWARE OF MEETING YOUR GUIDE AT THE PORT !! - We organised to be picked up at the port. If you arrive by ship, organise the pickup ELSEWHERE. We got to briefly meet our guide before he was intercepted by ‘plain clothes police’ in the port, who wanted to know who he was and we were not to go with him. He was taken away to the police station where he was held until nearly 6pm - after we had sailed. Fortunately the Togo Tours manager caught up with us at the shuttle bus destination and we had our shortened tour, which was excellent. It would seem that these ‘authorities’ are in cahoots with the travel company running ship tours and don’t want competition. We were even told to go back on the ship to buy a tour, as the last busses were departing. We told him we already paid for our tour. So please be warned of the port antics.
