Too hot for August! Poor logistics - We were a group of 3 Americans looking to explore another island near Zaknythos and this tour seemed like an all inclusive option for a day trip to Kefalonia. We wanted to make sure we rated this tour as average as it wasn’t the worst tour for a non busy time. However doing this in the heat of August we found the lines to the activities far too long and the heat was exhausting. Which we realize is out of the tour companies control. However, there were several other issues which were in their control, which we would like to note in this review. We had some issues with figuring out a pick up spot as the tour does not pick up from certain hotels and airbnbs. The tour actually cancelled our reservation and we had to rebook for another day, bc they couldn’t communicate over email. We drove about 35 minutes to the port of Agios Nikolas to sit at a coffee shop and wait for our guide. There was also no parking info and a parking man was very rude to us when we tried to park in a lot near the ferry. There were no other instructions, and we ended up having to call the tour company again and almost missed the Lason ferry boat to Klefalonia, we arrived 20 minutes early. In hindsight, we actually had a rental car and think we could have navigated this much quicker, by ourselves. We would recommend staying a night in Kefalonia to break up the long journey. We finally did locate our tour guide Vera, and she was probably the highlight of the day. Very funny and did her very best to make sure everyone had a good day. We enjoyed her information on the bus, she was also very honest about August being the most busy season. The ferry is 1 hour and 45 minutes each way. Once we arrived in Klefalonia we toured a church and then we went to a cave which was very crowded. Cave temperature was cool and probably the best part of the trip, just to not stand in the heat. But it was about 15 minutes. Then we went to the second cave which we stood outside for almost an hour waiting in line, in the hot sun. This hour made us late for the rest of the day. Once we got down to the cave boats it was 6 men, asking for tips for a 5 minute spin around the cave pool. We got some good photos but it wasn’t worth the wait. Then back on the bus for lunch at a tavern, keep in mind you have to pay for the 2 caves and the lunch separate from the tour. Then we went to a look out and to the final town which we only had about 15 minutes to walk around bc of the long lines at the caves. We would have liked to have spent more time in the town. Then back to the ferry for another 1 hour and 45 minutes hours journey. Thankfully we had a rental car at the port but we heard that some people had been picked up at 7am when the actual tour after all the transport only started at about 12 and I am assuming they were then dropped back off 9pm. Not the worst tour but not the best time. Long day, hot, long lines, always late.
