Our travel will take us through the stunning Asterousia Mountain region, beginning with a drive through Crete’s famed vineyards.
Noted for a variety of grapes used in winemaking, the villages through which we pass house numerous reputed wineries. Our first pause is the elevated village of Agios Thomas, sitting at an altitude of 760 meters with historical roots dating back to 1371 AD.
Furthering our drive, we traverse the abundant Messara valley, taking in the view of thriving olive plantations before reaching the renowned Odigitria Monastery dedicated to Virgin Mary. A scenic journey down an unpaved path leads us to Matala, a southern Crete village where hippies took residence in the seventies. In this quaint town, you have free rein to marvel at the picturesque features and visit hippy-lived caves.
Lastly, we will tread a calm route back to the hotel. This remarkable excursion guarantees lasting images and a nostalgic sentiment.
