Furthering our drive, we traverse the abundant Messara valley, taking in the view of thriving olive plantations before reaching the renowned Odigitria Monastery dedicated to Virgin Mary. A scenic journey down an unpaved path leads us to Matala, a southern Crete village where hippies took residence in the seventies. In this quaint town, you have free rein to marvel at the picturesque features and visit hippy-lived caves.
