Learn about the history of the island here. - Great place to learn about the history of Sicily. Get a good guide and have them explain how the island has changed over the last 3000 years. This place is the perfect setting to learn it all and experience it.

A good trip - Visited as part of a tour group with a local guide .
A brilliant trip , lots to see & learn about . We had an audio set , so our guide walked & talked , keeping us in the shade as much as possible.
She was interesting, informative, easy to understand & good to listen to
The site has had some restoration but it has been well done .
A good time & well worth the visit .

If you are visiting Sicily, the Valley of the Temples is manditory. - The Valley of the temples is possibly the most important vestige of ancient classical culture in Sicily. It is comprised of temples to the gods, as well as a necropolis and other sanctuaries. The Temple of the Dioscuri (Castor & Pollux) with only four columns is the symbol of Agrigento. The Temple of Zeus was built to give thanks for the City's victory of the Carthaginians. Concordia is the best-preserved sacred building. A Statue of Icarus donated by Polish sculptor Igor Mitoraj lies outside. Hercules Temple, the oldest, was destroyed in an earthquake and only 8 or 38 columns remain. The Temple of Juno houses the goddess of fertility. There are many more temples, too numerous to mention, located in this valley. This UNESCO Heritage site is a "MUST VISIT."

MUST see preserved history in person! - Incredibly impressive. The history and stories behind the temple remains is incredible. We hired a tour guide who provided incredible stories, answered questions, and showed us many depictions of the technique and tools used to build these structures. She showed us aqueducts and quarries across town that were visible from the national park. The guide was so well worth it. Temple Concordia was breathtaking!

Valley of the Temples - Our hotel arranged an English speaking guide for this visit, Sergio really knew his stuff and was very informative and enthusiastic. Worth having a guide. Lots to look at, in March quite quiet too. We added the gardens as well, also very peaceful.

It's worth it! - The visit to the complex is worthwhile and takes about 2-3 hours. We quickly found a parking space and entry is free. However, an audio guide is recommended. We downloaded the app and played the guide that way. We took the shuttle back, which cost €3 per person. Great day trip! The granita at the parking lot is super delicious, by the way.

Many temples spread over the site - This is a large site with several temples and ruins. Some of the temples have been restored to show how they would have been and you can see where columns, etc, have been put back together with the joining pieces clearly shown in most places. There are some information panels but not many. We had a guide with our group which was good. I think if you didn't have a guide it would certainly be worth buying the guide book. Lots to see over the site.

If you're into Ancient History, this is for you - A large area, but easy to walk around, there are numerous ruins in various degrees of preservation, with the Temple of Concordia, the most well preserved and most impressive. Some of the ruins have clearly been renovated in parts, to show what they had been like, but that does not distract from the exhibits.
Definitely worth a visit for history buffs, but you really need a guide to explain it all to you, to make sense.
Can be busy, but over the large area, visitors will spread out.
