Highlights
  • Akureyri Botanical Garden - We drive past the Botanical garden and passengers can be droped off here at the end of the tour.
  • Godafoss - Godafoss waterfall is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Iceland with easy access from both sides of the river. It is surrounded by stunning basalt columns.
  • The Old Farmhouse Laufas - The atmospheric and picturesque heritage site of Laufás is full of history with its large farmhouse and beautiful 19th Church. It has been the home of priests since at least 1047 until 1935 with the current priest still living on the premises. The house includes long corridors and many interconnected rooms. The current buildings are from the middle of the 19th century and furnished with household items and clothes from the period. One of Laufás characteristics is the Bridal room where brides prepared themselves for the big event. The existing church was built in 1865, among its special items is a pulpit from 1698.
Laufás Visitor Centre has a cosy atmosphere and additional information about nature, wildlife and history of the vicinity. Local handcraft and souvenir shop and refreshments.
The old turf house is part of the National Museum’s Historic Buildings Collection.
  • Christmas Garden - Open all year round, this magical house and garden looks like it came straight from a book of fairy tales. Outside in the garden there are plenty of hidden things for you to find and enjoy. Upon entering the Christmas House you are greeted with the warmth of a log fire and the songs and the scents of the festive season even in the middle of summer. Try to find the Icelandic Yule lad´s troll mother (Gryla) hidden in her cave. The Christmas House is a magical place to visit, all year round. Every corner is filled with Christmas magic so take your time to look around. Next to the Christmas house is a wonderful shop where you can sample local jams or buy a souvenir to take home.
Great way to hear about and experience some local Christmas traditions.
  • Akureyri - At the end of the day we drive you around the town of Akureyri for a short guided tour. Highlights include the old town, Botanical gardens, Church of Akureyri and the town centre. Let your driver know if you would like to disembark at any of these locations.

Great way to see the waterfall - The waterfall was amazing, and we were allowed plenty of time to see it. Laufas historical museum exceeded our expectations. Very interesting and well managed site. Christmas house was a disappointment - touristy and no Iceland specific items for sale. Our tour guide on the bus was amazing with his stories and information.

Great Guide! - Everything was excellent - tour guide, information, and stops. Only reason for 4 stars was the stops were 10-15 minutes each too short.

Beautiful falls and country side but could not hear the guide - The falls was beautiful, Laufás was interesting, the Christmas house was a tourist place. I would not recommend this particular company as we could not hear the guide due to road noise in the van. They need to have the head sets for passengers. If the vent was closed, it was hot and we still could not hear due to road noise. I am sure the guide was knowledgeable but did not learn anything because we could not understand what he was saying due to road noise.

Rushed tour-rude tour guide - Definitely need more time at the Perlan Museum…. Only 50 minutes and you had to be on the bus. I could have spent the entire 4 hours just there. Once again, we had an another tour guide not do his job. We boarded the bus and sat together. At the 2nd stop another passenger took our seats. Instead of the tour guide telling people to return to their original seats, he was a jerk and said “it’s only 30 minutes to the next stop”. At the next stop, we tried to get our original seats, he YELLS AT US! If you don’t behave, we will throw you off the bus! This is the 2nd Viator excursion where the tour operator doesn’t want to get involved and will not enforce common courtesy. NEVER BOOKING ANOTHER VIATOR
