A Warm Welcome to Husky Heaven

As soon as we arrived at the husky kennel just outside of Akureyri, we were greeted by the warm smiles of Gunnar and Maria, the delightful couple who run this magical place. Their love for their huskies was evident from the moment we stepped into their cozy home. It felt like we were visiting old friends rather than embarking on a tour. The atmosphere was filled with positivity and warmth, making it the perfect setting for a family adventure.

The huskies themselves were a sight to behold. With their striking blue eyes and fluffy coats, they were lounging around, seemingly enjoying a lazy afternoon. It was a unique experience to see these energetic sled dogs in such a relaxed state. The peaceful environment inside the house allowed us to connect with the dogs on a more personal level, something that can be challenging when they’re outside, bursting with energy.

Cuddles, Kisses, and Puppy Love

The highlight of our visit was undoubtedly the chance to cuddle and play with the huskies. As a family, we love animals, and this experience was a dream come true. The huskies were incredibly friendly, showering us with kisses and snuggles. It was heartwarming to see my kids’ faces light up as they interacted with these gentle giants. The joy and laughter that filled the room were infectious, creating memories that we will cherish forever.

To our delight, we also had the opportunity to meet six adorable husky puppies. Their playful antics and tiny barks added an extra layer of joy to our visit. Watching my children play with the puppies was like witnessing pure happiness in motion. It was the perfect cherry on top of an already fantastic experience.

Stories and Sledding Dreams

Gunnar and Maria were not only wonderful hosts but also fantastic storytellers. They shared fascinating tales about their huskies, from their sledding adventures to their unique personalities. It was clear that each dog was a cherished member of their family, and their passion for their work was truly inspiring.

While we opted for the petting tour this time, Gunnar and Maria also offer dogsledding tours during the winter months. It’s something we are definitely considering for our next visit. The idea of gliding through the snowy landscapes of Iceland with these magnificent creatures is incredibly enticing.
