Highlights
  • Museum of Islamic Art in Cairo - The Museum of Islamic Art houses one of the world’s largest and most comprehensive collections of Islamic artifacts. The initiative to gather and showcase this grand collection began in 1880 AD. The building was eventually constructed and inaugurated in 1903 AD, during the reign of Khedive Abbas Helmy II. The facade of the building, designed in the Mamluk style, is located next to the National Library of Egypt.

In 2014, an explosion targeting the Cairo Security Directorate across the street damaged the facade. It was restored and reopened in 2017. The museum’s building features two floors displaying a vast array of artifacts from around the globe, covering topics such as astronomy, medicine, and architecture. The extensive collection takes visitors on a journey through all periods of Islamic history, showcasing some of the most exquisite artifacts, including intricately carved woodwork, beautifully decorated ceramics, and rare manuscripts.
