Giza Plateau - Anytime from 7:00 am or earlier, you’ll be picked up from Cairo airport by our expert tour guide, who will greet you with a sign displaying your name. You’ll then be transferred in a private A/C car to start your Cairo layover tour. Visit the Giza Pyramids, including the Great Pyramid of Cheops. You have the option to enter any of the pyramids or ride a camel around them, but these activities require separate tickets that can be purchased on-site. Our guide will take you to the best spots for photos and assist you in capturing memorable moments. End your visit to the Giza Pyramids with a stop at the Valley Temple, known for mummification, and finally, visit the Sphinx, one of the largest and oldest in Egypt.
-
Great Pyramid of Cheops (Khufu) - Khufu’s pyramid complex includes a valley temple, now buried beneath the village of Nazlet el-Samman. Diabase paving and nummulitic limestone walls have been found, but the site has not been excavated. The valley temple was connected to a causeway, which was largely destroyed when the village was built.
-
Khafre’s Pyramid - Khafre’s pyramid complex includes a valley temple, the Sphinx temple, a causeway, a mortuary temple, and the king’s pyramid. The valley temple yielded several statues of Khafre, some of which were found in a well in the temple floor by Mariette in 1860. Others were discovered during later excavations by Sieglin (1909–10), Junker, and Reisner.
-
Menkaure Pyramid - Menkaure’s pyramid complex includes a valley temple, a causeway, a mortuary temple, and the king’s pyramid. The valley temple once contained several statues of Menkaure. During the 5th Dynasty, a smaller ante-temple was added to the valley temple. The mortuary temple also yielded several statues of Menkaure.
-
Great Sphinx - Conclude your layover tour with a visit to the Sphinx, located near the Valley Temple. The Sphinx is the oldest and largest in Egypt, featuring a lion’s body and a human head, symbolizing power and intellect. The face of the Sphinx is a portrait of Khafre, who built the middle pyramid of Giza.
-
Coptic Cairo - Then drive to Old Coptic Cairo to visit the Christian part of the city, including the oldest churches such as The Hanging Church, Abu Sergha, and the Jewish Synagogue of Ben Ezra. Stop for lunch at a local restaurant (not included in the tour price).
