• The Great Pyramid of Giza - The Pyramids of Giza are a group of three ancient pyramids situated on the Giza plateau close to Cairo, Egypt. They were constructed in the Fourth Dynasty during the Old Kingdom era of ancient Egypt, about 4,500 years in the past. The trio of pyramids bear the names of the pharaohs who commissioned their construction: Khufu (Cheops), Khafre (Chephren), and Menkaure (Mycerinus).\n\n The Pyramids of Giza were initially encased in polished white limestone, which rendered them brilliantly reflective. Nonetheless, over the ages, much of this limestone was stripped away for use in other constructions, resulting in the pyramids’ present-day coarse and eroded facade.\n\n The Sphinx, an iconic sculpture featuring a human head atop a lion’s body, stands in proximity to the Pyramids of Giza. It is generally accepted that the Sphinx was erected during Khafre’s rule and is speculated to have been hewn from a singular block of limestone.
