- Pyramids of Giza - Begin your tour with a pickup from your hotel in Cairo or Giza by a tour guide. The Giza pyramid complex, also known as the Giza Necropolis, is located on the Giza Plateau in Greater Cairo, Egypt. It includes the Great Pyramid of Giza, the Pyramid of Khafre, and the Pyramid of Menkaure, along with their associated pyramid complexes and the Great Sphinx of Giza. These structures were built during the Fourth Dynasty of the Old Kingdom of Ancient Egypt. The site also features several cemeteries and the remains of a workers’ village.
The complex is situated at the edge of the Western Desert, about 9 km (5 mi) west of the Nile River in Giza, and roughly 13 km (8 mi) southwest of Cairo’s city center.
- Great Pyramid of Cheops (Khufu) - Khufu’s pyramid complex includes a valley temple, now buried beneath the village of Nazlet el-Samman. Diabase paving and nummulitic limestone walls have been discovered, but the site remains unexcavated. The valley temple was connected to a causeway, which was largely destroyed during the village’s construction.
- Khafre’s Pyramid - Khafre’s pyramid complex comprises a valley temple, the Sphinx temple, a causeway, a mortuary temple, and the king’s pyramid. The valley temple yielded several statues of Khafre, some of which were found in a well in the temple floor by Mariette in 1860.
- Great Sphinx - The Sphinx dates back to the reign of King Khafre. During the New Kingdom, Amenhotep II dedicated a new temple to Hauron-Haremakhet, which was later expanded by subsequent rulers.
- Menkaure Pyramid - Menkaure’s pyramid complex includes a valley temple, a causeway, a mortuary temple, and the king’s pyramid. The valley temple once housed several statues of Menkaure. During the 5th Dynasty, a smaller ante-temple was added to the valley temple.
- The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities - Commonly known as the Egyptian Museum or Museum of Cairo, this museum in Cairo, Egypt, boasts an extensive collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts. It houses 120,000 items, with a portion on display and the rest in storerooms. Built in 1901 by the Italian construction company Garozzo-Zaffarani and designed by French architect Marcel Dourgnon, it is one of the largest museums in the region. As of March 2019, the museum is open to the public. In 2020, it is set to be replaced by the new Grand Egyptian Museum in Giza.
- Khan Al-Khalili - Khan el-Khalili (Arabic: خان الخليلي) is a renowned bazaar and souq located in Cairo’s historic center. This bazaar district is a major attraction for both tourists and locals. It is also home to many Egyptian artisans and workshops producing traditional crafts and souvenirs. The tour concludes with a drop-off at your hotel in Cairo or Giza.
- Gizeh Plateau - The Giza Plateau (Arabic: هضبة الجيزة) is a limestone plateau in Giza, Egypt, and the site of the Fourth Dynasty Giza pyramid complex, which includes the pyramids of Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure, the Great Sphinx, several cemeteries, a workers’ village, and an industrial complex. It forms the northernmost part of the 16,000 ha Pyramid Fields on the Western Desert edge of the Nile Valley, which are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Memphis and its Necropolis.
The plateau is elevated approximately 60 meters above sea level.
