Numerous additional petroglyphs await your discovery: Emblems, hatchets, cudgels, and blades; as well as anthropomorphic figures and bovines, believed to date back to before 3000 BCE. You’ll also encounter a variety of symbols such as spirals, mazes, rings, and snake-like forms, which are often interpreted as hunting traps when found alongside animal depictions, or as icons with religious and spiritual significance. In proximity to these petroglyphs, you can find pre-Islamic burial mounds and the ruins of very old settlements.

Yagour, spanning over 80 km and under the stewardship of the Berber tribe, is a shepherding realm tucked between the elevations of 1900m and 2700m, stretching even higher towards the Meltsène peak at 3600m. When April rolls in and the snow leaves its place to burgeoning life, the large pasture, known as agdal, blankets the Yagour plateau in verdance. The plateau becomes a bustling hub of transhumance activity come June, annually harboring over 5,000 shepherds and their livestock from about fifty douars from the High Atlas. Enjoy this one-day venture, filled with random encounters with Berber shepherds during the Yagour summer season. This journey through the High Atlas offers a unique blend of scenic beauty, the opportunity to explore ancient rock carvings, and meet the shifting shepherds. An immersive journey through the region’s age-old history, you might find yourself longing to return for an extended trek in the High Atlas, the Yagour, or the Zat valley.
