Highlights
  • Kruja Castle - Ascend to the majestic Krujë Castle, also known as Kalaja e Krujës, situated high above the town, and delve into its rich history. This castle holds a significant place in Albanian history as the center of Skanderbeg’s rebellion against the Ottoman Empire. Within its walls lie several key attractions, including the Teqe of Dollme of the Bektashi sect, the National Skanderbeg Museum, remnants of the Fatih Sultan Mehmed mosque and minaret, an ethnographic museum, and a Turkish bath. Perched at an elevation of 557 meters, the castle serves as a major tourist destination and a symbol of national pride for Albanians.
  • Ethnographic Museum of Kruja - The National Museum “Gjergj Kastrioti - Skenderbeu,” housed within Krujë Castle, offers visitors a comprehensive insight into Albanian history, featuring original documents, objects, and authentic reproductions from the fifteenth century. Another notable attraction is the Ethnographic Museum, showcasing the lifestyle and sustainable practices of a typical household in the 19th century. Both museums contribute to Krujë Castle’s status as a must-visit destination in Albania.
  • Rozafa Castle - Arrive at Rozafa Castle and embark on a brief exploration of its ancient ruins. Dating back to ancient Illyrian times, possibly as early as the 4th century BCE, this historic fortress near Shkodër in Albania has witnessed several renovations and expansions over the centuries. Serving as a defensive stronghold against invaders such as the Romans, Byzantines, and Ottomans, the castle offers panoramic views of Shkodër and its surroundings from its strategic hilltop position. Legend has it that the castle was named after Rozafa, a woman who was allegedly walled into its walls during its construction. Today, Rozafa Castle stands as a symbol of Albania’s rich history and cultural heritage, drawing visitors from around the world.
  • Marubi National Museum of Photography - Explore the vibrant city center of Shkodër, starting with visits to the Marubi Museum and then the Historical Museum. Immerse yourself in Albanian photography and history as you delve into the cultural treasures of this dynamic city.

At the heart of the museum project lies the legacy of the ‘Photo-Studio Marubbi’, established in 1856 by Pietro Marubbi, an Italian painter and photographer who settled in Shkodër. Directed and enriched by three generations of photographers until the early 1950s, the studio’s activity

was later absorbed into the communist collective anonymity. The Marubi Photo-Studio, founded in 1970, houses around 500,000 negatives and has witnessed historical images being manipulated for communist propaganda.

  • Shkoder Historical Museum - The Historical Museum of Shkodra, established in 1947 and initially known as the “Folk Museum”, was later expanded and relocated to a monumental 19th-century building. Initially assembled from donations and private collections, it has since been enriched through donations, purchases, and archaeological finds.

In 1996, it was transferred to the restored traditional house of “Oso Kuka”, where it remains today. Additionally, the “Rozafa” Museum, opened in 1987 within the City Castle, further enhances the city’s museum network.

  • Shkodra Lake - Embark on a boat ride on Lake Shkodra from Shiroka or explore the charming village itself, known for its scenic beauty and traditional way of life. Lake Shkodra, the largest in the Balkans, spans approximately 370 square kilometers, primarily in Montenegro. It’s a biodiversity hotspot, home to various bird species, including the rare Dalmatian pelican. Surrounded by mountains and marshlands, the lake offers recreational activities like birdwatching and fishing. With its stunning natural scenery and cultural significance, Lake Shkodra is a favorite destination for nature lovers and adventurers alike.
