- Poas Volcano National Park - Following the coffee tour, the journey will proceed to Poas Volcano National Park, where visitors will experience a noticeable shift in temperature and the lush vegetation of the cloud forest.
The Poás Volcano is an active stratovolcano standing at 2,708 meters (8,885 ft). Its crater spans over a mile in width and is 1,050 feet deep. It has erupted 40 times since 1828, with the most recent eruption in April 2017.
At the volcano, there will be time to admire the impressive main crater with its sulfur fumaroles and hike along a trail to the stunning Botos Lagoon, learning about the park’s diverse ecosystems along the way.
- La Paz Waterfall Gardens - After visiting Poás, the tour will continue to La Paz Waterfall Garden, where a buffet lunch (rated 4 Forks by the Costa Rican Tourism Council) will be enjoyed, featuring a variety of traditional Costa Rican dishes and more.
At La Paz Waterfall Gardens, participants will explore walking trails surrounded by lush tropical rainforest. They will marvel at flowing white rivers, breathtaking waterfalls, birds, butterflies, monkeys, and hummingbirds. Additionally, there are educational animal exhibits to enjoy, such as the Aviary, Butterfly Observatory, Hummingbird Garden, Serpentarium, Jungle Cats Exhibit, and Frog Exhibit. This tour is a delight for nature enthusiasts of all ages.

Amazingly, a Tour That Got Everything Right - If all tours were this good, I’d probably never plan my own vacations again.
The “Poás Volcano + Coffee Plantations & La Paz Waterfall Gardens” trip from San José was honestly the best tour I’ve had in years. Our guide Ronny was wonderfully knowledgeable and somehow managed to be informative without ever sounding like a walking textbook.
The timing at each stop was spot on: enough time to explore, take photos, and admire the scenery without doing that awkward tourist speed-walk back to the bus.
Even breakfast and lunch got a perfectly reasonable amount of time, which felt like a rare and beautiful gift.
Well organized, relaxed, and genuinely enjoyable from start to finish — I’d absolutely recommend it.

Loved it all - request Mauritzio! - We had a private tour with Mauritzio, it was amazing! Super knowledgable about the sights, flora and fauna, with the perfect balance between friendly and allowing us to be our group. We had such a great time we booked another tour with him tomorrow :)

Incredible Experience - Road was closed to volcano, so had to pivot, still did the rest of the tour though. Highly recommend. Our guide Edgar, was top notch and made it even more memorable! Would do this tour again.

Very Nice experience, I... - Very Nice experience, I loved the waterfalls .just to give you the heads up there's lot of walking required in this tour especially at La Paz where there's lot of going up and down the stairs to get to waterfalls

Waterfalls and Coffee, who doesn't enjoy that? - Our trip had to be adjusted slightly since Poas was closed. But the trip was still 100% worth it! Our guide was SO knowledgeable and interactive with the group. Learning how coffee is processed was so eye opening and La Paz Waterfall garden was great. There were A LOT of stairs to get to the falls, but for those who couldn't manage the stairs they had a plan for an alternative tour ready to go. Overall this was a GREAT way to end my trip.

Amazing value packed day trip - We had an excellent tour with Jose. It ended up just being me and my husband. Breakfast in the coffee plantation was really big (lots of vegetarian options). We got to try lots of different coffees and chocolates. Jose kept an eye on the volcano webcam so we got up when the view was perfect with no cloud cover. La Paz waterfalls were beautiful, again lunch was big with lots of choice (pizza/fries/rice and beans/salad). We stopped on the way and got to try strawberry's and various liqueurs/Costa Rican wine. There was an opportunity to buy souvenirs as well. Definitely would recommend.

beautiful nature, zoo vibes - volcano wasn’t visible due to clouds which was sad, but otherwise a fun day. The coffee tour was super cool and the food was great overall. The waterfalls were beautiful, but the facilities included a “sanctuary” that felt more like a zoo. That said, it was still cool to see the animals. Edgar was punctual, friendly, and informative.
