Discovering the Ancient Wonders of Lori

Our journey began with a visit to the Sanahin Monastery, a remarkable site nestled on the right bank of the Debed River. The scriptorium, where numerous valuable manuscripts and miniature paintings were produced, speaks to the monastery’s role as a beacon of knowledge.

Walking through the monastery, I was particularly drawn to the belfry, with its unique architectural composition. It stands as a symbol of the artistic and spiritual achievements of its time. The stories of Sayat-Nova, the famous Armenian bard who lived and created here in the 18th century, added a layer of cultural richness to the experience. As I stood in the shadow of these ancient walls, I felt a deep connection to the past and a renewed commitment to preserving such treasures for future generations.

Embracing Nature at Zarni-Parni

The final leg of our tour took us to the Zarni-Parni cave castle complex, located in a picturesque forest canyon. The journey to this site was an adventure in itself, as we traversed a path that had been restored to reveal the hidden beauty of the area. The complex, with its castles and caves, embodies the resilience and spirit of the Armenian national liberation struggle.

As I explored the Zarni-Parni, I was struck by the harmony between the natural landscape and the historical structures. The panoramic views of the Kayan fortress and the surrounding forest were a reminder of the importance of preserving our natural world. This experience reinforced my belief in the power of sustainable tourism to protect and celebrate both cultural and natural heritage.
