- Silves - Silves is a charming medieval town that once served as the capital of the Algarve during the Arab rule. It is renowned for its rich history and cultural heritage. The town is dominated by its striking red sandstone castle, originally constructed by the Moors in the 8th century and later reinforced by Christian kings during the Reconquista. Visitors can explore the castle and its walls, which provide panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. The town’s narrow, winding streets are lined with whitewashed houses and traditional shops offering local handicrafts and souvenirs. Other notable landmarks include the 13th-century Cathedral. The market is also a must-visit.
- Monchique - Monchique is best explored on foot.
Strolling through the steep streets of the town center rewards visitors with views of magnificent hills, glimpsed between houses, and moments of tranquility in unexpected corners. Parking is available outside the town, and from there, a guided walk to the town center is provided.
The guide will establish a meeting point for pick-up, allowing customers more than 2 hours to enjoy Monchique independently, including a lunch break.
- Caldas de Monchique - Experience the serene charm of Caldas de Monchique, a quaint village often referred to as Termas de Monchique. It is cherished for its calming thermal springs and lush, green forest surroundings. Please note, only one small spring is accessible to the public.

Lovely Monchique and Silves - We were fortunate to have a second excursion with Gabriel Lima. His knowledge of history for the towns visited was extensive. We traveled on some stunning countryside roads with an abundance of oranges, lemons, avocados, and lovely wildflowers. I appreciated that he gave us some free time to explore. The walk to the natural springs at Monchique was beautiful and lifted one’s spirit. His warmth and sense of humor was a a highlight of the journey. We will miss him.

The Algarve isn’t just about the beaches! - Thank you, Gabriel Lima, for an incredible tour of Silves, Monchique and the Foia peak last week! Plus a delicious lunch at Restaurante A Charrette. Gabriel was a great guide to this mountain region and gave us a wonderful alternative view of the Algarve away from the coast. Obrigado!

Take a tour with Gabriel. He is amazing - We actually did two private tours with Gabriel over the last 6 weeks. First we explored the eastern part of the Algarve at the beginning of a month long stay in Olhao. Gabriel was amazing, and showed us places we never would have discovered on our own. He took us to a great place for lunch, and we even took a slight detour into Spain. All the time he entertained us, made us laugh and told stories about the area he grew up in and loves so well. By the end of the day, we knew we found a friend. We were so pleased, we hired him to take us on a second tour when friends came to visit. This time, we visited the charming town of Silves, complete with castle, tasted the purest mountain spring water, ate a scrumptious meal in Monchique, saw amazing old cork trees and ended the day tasting some great wines. We will hire Gabriel again and again.

Unbelievable day your! - Gabriel was an amazing, knowledgeable, passionate guide throughout Silves & Monchique. What an amazing day stopping at cork trees, a castle, winery, shops, a church and then topped off by oranges delivered to our hotel the next day.

Amazing - Beautiful green hills with some cows , stroks , horses here you can see a a lot of nature and breath some fresh air from the countryside , amazing tour for the countryside of Algarve and for our guide Gabriel our local guide he really knows the best places! I recommend this tour we will surely come back!

Awesome tour with Gabriel - It was our first trip to Portugal and this tour was the icing on the cake. Gabriel is an excellent tour guide who shares his love and passion for his beautiful country in such an enthusiastic way, you will certainly fall in love with everything! He went above and beyond by even adding a beautiful beach to finish off our tour. We highly recommend this tour if you wish to learn more about Silves and Monchique, oh and don't forget to drink straight from the natural springs with its alkaline water. He also took us to a fantastic restaurant by the Cork farm which was real value for money. We will be back! Kay and Jay!

Wonderful glimpse into the "real" Algarve - We travelled to Monchique and Silves with Gabriel on his offering with GL Tours on 28 February. We had an absolutely fantastic time! Gabriel was extremely accomodating and flexible, as we had a cancelled train coming into Albufeira and met us at the station despite our delays. He crafted the tour to our tastes, including suggesting to stop for lunch at Caldas de Monchique (as we had packed a picnic lunch from home) in what was a highlight of the day excursion. He also took the time to take us to a forest with cork trees and walk us through the Algarve's rich flora, including the carob - we had never tried any before, and Gabriel went out of his way to surprise us with carob biscuits at our last stop in Monchique! An extremely sweet gesture that we will remember for a time to come (P.S. the biscuits were DELICIOUS!) We highly recommend touring the Algarve with Gabriel if you make a visit to the area, and we look forward to booking Alentejo tours with Gabriel the next time we want to travel across the Algarve and Alentejo!

Fabulous day with a fabulous guide - You must book with Gabriel! He is funny, chatty and had fab personality. We decided to do tour last minute as we were not sure what was available and stumbled across GL Tours and what a find. He give great information on the places you visit and happy to change the itinerary so you get the best experience on the day. We stopped at beautiful silves the castle is breath taking and after Gabriel’s advice we had some lovely orange juice and cake just outside the castle it was lovely was to pass 20 minutes in such a beautiful place.After silves we had some wine tasting and was so good we bought some bottles home with us. The lady in the vineyard was extremely friendly and gave lots of information about the wines and how the vineyard had been established. We then carried on our journey to the springs, which felt like the most tranquil place ever. Off to monchique next stop and our wonderful guide gave us best advice on where to eat I had best steak of my holiday for half the price you pay in resort. Gabriel takes the time to make sure you enjoy every aspect of your trip. We have already booked him for our holiday in June.

Unforgettable memories! - We recently toured Silves and Monchique, which included a wine tasting. Absolutely remarkable trip with lovely people accompanying us. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour and highly recommend it!! Our tour guide, Gabriel, included personalized moments that were special to us based on his friendly discussions with us. He truly gets to know his clients and tries to make the experience memorable. He helped us make unforgettable memories that we will treasure for a lifetime.
