Alcobaça Monastery is a place where eternal love is celebrated, as it is the resting place of Pedro and Inês, crowned Queen of Portugal… after death. We will tell you all about the history and daily life of this ancient monastery, one the biggest of all Cistercian centers in Europe. “Pray and Work” was the motto of the monks, who left a strong legacy beyond spiritual matters: they were also famous for their delicious pastries.
Afterwards, we’ll visit Nazaré where you will be able to take in some massive views and learn about the legends and traditions of this unique place that was once a fishing village and is now a surfing Meca.
After lunch in Nazaré, it’s time to visit Batalha Monastery, a true masterpiece of Portuguese Late Gothic architecture. You will see the marvelous royal pantheon and learn all about the Battle (Batalha) of Aljubarrota, which paved the way for Portugal to become the first global empire.
