- Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa - Start with the catacomb tomb, discovered by a donkey in the 1st century.
- Pompey’s Pillar - Visit Pompey’s Pillar, a 3rd-century granite column standing 26.85 meters tall.
- Qaitbay Castle - Visit from the outside. Note: The Qaitbay Citadel in Alexandria is one of the most important defensive strongholds in Egypt and along the Mediterranean coast. In the 15th century A.D., it was crucial to Alexandria’s fortifications. The Citadel is located at the entrance of the eastern harbor on the east point of Pharos Island. It was built on the site of the famous Lighthouse of Alexandria, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The lighthouse continued to function until the Arab conquest. Despite several disasters that altered its shape, it remained operational. Restoration began during the reign of Ahmed Ibn Tulun (around 880 A.D). In the 11th century, an earthquake damaged the octagonal part. The base survived and served as a watchtower, with a small mosque built on top. A destructive earthquake in the 14th century destroyed the building. Optional stop for lunch at the fish market.
- Bibliotheca Alexandria - The Library of Alexandria was one of the ancient world’s most famous and influential libraries. Built in the third century BC by Ptolemy I Soter, it was designed to house a vast collection of books and manuscripts on philosophy, mathematics, science, and literature. It quickly became a center of learning and culture, with an influence that extended far beyond Alexandria. The library was said to contain up to 500,000 scrolls and was one of the largest collections of knowledge in the ancient world. It was also home to several famous scholars, including the mathematician Euclid and the astronomer Eratosthenes.
