Sights by the Sea - After a 3 hour drive where you get to see some new developments, small towns and farms we started with the catacombs. My driver was good and quick from place to place. My guide was very informative, and patient while I took tons of photos. The catacombs were all in tact, and so cool to see these ancient spaces, carvings and rooms. From the catacombs we went to Pompey's Pillar which includes a lot of artifacts in the center of the city. Great variety of items to see and experience, a lot of sphinx statues. The citadel was in wonderful shape, hearing about the history was great, and the views of the city and Mediterranean were amazing. Lastly we went to a great lunch of whole fish, salads, and great dips with delicious bread. Traffic is insane in the city, best not to watch if you're a nervous driver.

Lovely day in Alexandria with Hend - We had Hend as our guide and George as our driver. Both were extremely great at what they do. I’m sure most tour guides are knowledgeable in their field but Hend is a true Egyptologist and really knew how to communicate well so we can learn about the history of Alexandria. When the Alexandria library was not on our itinerary and we asked if we can go as it was a very important site to see, Hend and George really went above and beyond to make it happen. In fact, we tried to hire them for another tour (sadly did not work out). I would schedule a tour with them without hesitation. We had a subpar guide today and that can really make or break your day. Don’t waste your precious time. Just go with Hend!

Unfortunately no tour in German - The star deduction is mainly because we didn't have a guide who spoke German (as booked) and paid for the entrance tickets with our credit card (apparently our tour guide hadn't noticed that cash payments at the ticket offices are no longer possible this year). The tour was still pretty fun, thanks to our tour guide Mohamed, there was plenty of time planned to look at the fortress and catacombs. Lunch was skipped without any comment.

Fine, but be really clear about your expectations - This day was the disappointment of our 10-day trip to Egypt. After good communication before our arrival, including the night before reminding us to be in our hotel lobby at 7am, we were excited. Then our driver didn't arrive. After multiple texts to the operator, all unreturned, over the course of an hour, we finally got confirmation that our driver was stuck in traffic and would arrive at 8:30. But when he arrived, our driver was quite clear that he had first been called at 8am and rushed into service. He was great, really great actually, but we lost the first 90 minutes of the day. And that came out of our tour of the city, which was nice but missed some key highlights. No entry to the Library of Alexandria, for example, which you should check in advance. And we were also surprised to learn part way through the day that our lunch and drinks and admissions fees were not included (despite what was printed on our reservation). This wasn't made up by the guide or driver, as the operator confirmed that we booked a trip without those options... despite what was printed on our receipt. So be really sure and confirm that you have enough cash for that. It wasn't expensive, just annoying. Be really clear in your communication, and as with everything in this part of the world, be flexible and patient because business deals have an element of slack to them that Europeans or North Americans might find... unexpected.

Sub par guide - The main reason I am dissatisfied with this trip was the guide. He told me the lunch I paid extra for in advance was not included but that I could pay for his and the drivers lunch somewhere cheaper than the company suggested. Maybe he genuinely had no idea what he was saying but I believe he wanted a free meal, so I did not eat anything. He also had some incorrect information on the sites. He additionally harassed a woman less than half his age when she made it clear she wasn’t interested in flirting. That may be acceptable here but I found it sickening. He also tried to sell me shirts that were not even the correct size while we were in the vehicle. I understand many guides and companies have gift shops they are affiliated with but being peddled to in the car when I made it clear I wanted to leave was not appreciated. That being said, the sites were nice and my driver was fine. In the future I would stay in Alexandria to see them again to avoid the commute.

VERY DISAPPOiNTING DAY! - Hotel pick up for 3 people was 2.5 hours LATE! We were picked up in Cairo by a driver and met our tour guide in Alexandria who HARDLY SPOKE ENGLISH! POOR TOUR We were booked on the LET’S EXPLORE EGYPT tour company and ZINE TRAVEL EGYPT showed up? We were promised compensation and we have not received anything from VIATOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. In fact they has not even responded despite many calls and emails. We deserve a FULL REFUND for this very DISAPPOINTING BEST ALEXANDRIA DAY TOUR!!

Con - Booked the trip a few weeks in advance but it took until 12 hours before we were to be collected to get a confirmation, I recieved a Awhatsapp message saying we would be collected at 07.00 next morning, I explained we were in the hotel next door with the same address, the answer was pretty clear and everything understood. Next morning 45 mins late a Whatsapp message asking where we were as they were lost. Once collected we set off in the not so luxury air conditioned car, we stopped a couple of times for the driver to use the toilet, arriving in Alexandra our guide "Mohamed" explained we had to pay for everything, entrance fees, lunch, fuel etc, an argument then ensued as I had paid for all this in advance, he eventually conceeded and we went on. I must say I thought Alexandra was supposed to be a jewel of Egypt but as we drove through the streets all I could think about was the film black hawk down and was sure we were going to have out throats slit. We arrived at the first attraction the crypt's or catacoombs, Mohamed didn't seem to know much about anything really other than the place was found due to a donkey falling into a hole, turns out it was the burial place of a Greek and his wife, we learned more from the other tour guides in the same place Mohamed was keen to sit and watch. Onto Pompeys Pillar "That's it, nothing here except that so have a walk round and take your time" Mohamed explained. He was more concerned that Tripadvisor would not give him an account so he could start his own business....doing what I wonder The Citadel was a nice place but no commentary and all we did was walk around it, lunch was in a seaside cafe which was ok, the waiter said drinks were extra and had to be paid for out of our own pocket 200LE later for 2 small glasses of orange we were off back to the hotel. I admit I could have given them more of a tip but a tip is a tip as far as I'm concerned should be earned, neither of them put themselves out, I had paid quite a lot for this VIP one-one private trip only to feel like I'd been ripped off. I later got a Whatsapp message from Mohamed saying they weren't happy with my tip.......tough. I recomemmend Trapadviser (who we purchased the trip from) should vet some of the guides. Mohamed is clearly a rip off con artist.
