Highlights
  • Bibliotheca Alexandrina - Your private guide and driver will pick you up in a private minivan to visit the Alexandria library. This library can hold up to eight million books, with the main reading room spanning 20,000 square meters across eleven cascading levels. The complex also includes a conference center, specialized libraries for maps, multimedia, the blind and visually impaired, young people, and children, four museums, four art galleries for temporary exhibitions, 15 permanent exhibitions, a planetarium, and a manuscript restoration laboratory. The library’s architecture is remarkable, featuring a main reading room under a 32-meter-high glass-paneled roof, tilted towards the sea like a sundial, and measuring approximately 160 meters in diameter. The walls are made of gray Aswan granite, engraved with characters from 120 different human scripts. The collections at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina were donated from around the world. The library is closed on Fridays.
  • Fort Qaitbey - Next, you will visit The Citadel of Qaitbay, a 15th-century fort on Egypt’s Mediterranean coast. Built by the Mamluk Sultan Qaitbay to protect Alexandria from the Crusaders, the Citadel is a large and imposing structure with high walls and numerous towers. It is one of the most significant castles in the Mediterranean, covering about 2 hectares. The Citadel has a rich and eventful history, described as “one of the most impressive medieval fortifications in the world,” having been involved in numerous battles and sieges over the centuries.
  • St. Mark’s Cathedral in Alexandria - The oldest church in Africa.
  • Mosque of Abu al-Abbas al-Mursi - You will also see an old funfair where children enjoy various rides.
