Founded in the 3rd century BC, shortly after the city was established as Egypt’s new capital by Alexander the Great, it is celebrated as one of ancient Alexandria’s greatest achievements. The library, along with the Mouseion, its larger institution of learning, is credited with preserving much of the ancient world’s knowledge.

• Ancient Roman Amphitheater - The Alexandria amphitheater was discovered by chance in 1960. While the Egyptian government was preparing to construct a building in the Kom El Dekka area, a worker uncovered a solid column beneath the dust and sand. An excavation team was promptly dispatched to investigate the find. The Roman theater, built in the 4th century AD and used until the 7th century through Roman, Byzantine, and Islamic eras, was a significant 20th-century discovery.

• Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa - The tombs at Kom Al-Shuqafa are believed to have originally belonged to a wealthy Roman family, beginning burials around the 2nd century AD. The complex was greatly expanded and used until the 4th century AD. It contains numerous graves, including a mass grave of animal and human remains linked to a mass execution by Roman Emperor Caracalla in 215 AD. The tombs are centered around a spiral staircase leading through several levels, with the lower levels flooded. Accessible areas feature walls richly decorated with a unique blend of Greek, Roman, and Egyptian iconography.

• Saint Mark’s Coptic Orthodox Cathedral - Visit the historical seat of the Pope of Alexandria, the head of the Coptic Orthodox Church. Saint Mark Cathedral stands on the site of the church founded by St. Mark the Evangelist in AD 60. St. Mark, author of the second Gospel, is closely associated with Alexandria from the earliest Christian tradition. Coptic Christians believe he arrived in Alexandria around AD 60, staying for about seven years, converting many to Christianity and performing miracles. He is recognized as the founder of the church in Alexandria and its first Bishop. Tradition holds that St. Mark was arrested during a festival of Serapis in AD 68.

• Serapeum of Alexandria - Pass by Pompey’s Pillar, the only known free-standing column in Roman Egypt, not composed of drums. It is one of the largest ancient monoliths and monolithic columns ever erected. The column shaft measures 20.46 meters in height with a diameter of 2.71 meters at its base, weighing an estimated 285 tons. Pompey’s Pillar stands 26.85 meters high, including its base and capital. You can take photos from outside without entering.

• Fort Qaitbey - Visit Qaitbay Fort, one of the most significant defensive strongholds in Egypt and along the Mediterranean Sea coast. It was a crucial part of Alexandria’s fortification system in the 15th century AD. Situated at the entrance of the eastern harbor on Pharos Island’s eastern point, it was erected on the site of the famous Lighthouse of Alexandria, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The lighthouse functioned until the Arab conquest, despite several disasters altering its shape. Restoration began during Ahmed Ibn Tulun’s period in 880 AD. You will then return to your hotel with your guide and driver.
