Highlights
  • Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa - Begin with a hotel pickup and travel to Alexandria. Your first stop will be the Catacombs of Kom El Shokafa, the largest Roman cemetery with three levels carved into the rock. Next, drive to the Roman Amphitheater of Alexandria, where you can view the sunken monuments discovered in the East harbor. You’ll also pass by Pompay’s Pillar for a photo opportunity; this pillar was erected in honor of Emperor Diocletian at the end of the 4th century.

Your next destination is the Library of Alexandria, the world’s largest library, housing 8 million books. Explore its open court, where statues of Alexander the Great and Ptolemy I, found underwater nearby, are displayed.

Visit the library’s manuscript museum, President Saddat Museum, and the Impressions of Alexandria Museum.

Note: The Alexandria Library is closed on all public holidays.

  • Alexandria - Next, visit the Church of St. Mark, the oldest church in Africa. During your drive, you’ll see the old downtown area and its historical architecture, featuring baroque designs and Italian and French-style buildings.

Stop by the El Nabi Daniel Mosque, which many believe is linked to Alexander the Great’s tomb. It is said to house the remains of the scholar and revered teacher Prophet Daniel and his companion Sidi Lokman el Hakim, a religious storyteller.

You have the option to enjoy lunch at a modern fish restaurant or a traditional Alexandrian eatery called Mohamed Ahmed’s, a favorite of the Queen of Spain and other notable visitors to Alexandria.

  • Kayetbai - Continue your journey to the Abbo Elabbas Mosque, the city’s largest and most beautiful mosque. Outside, you’ll find an old funfair where children play on antique rides and enjoy candy floss.

Across from the mosque is the corniche and the old harbor, where you can see fishing boats, fishermen, and traditional net-making. This area offers fantastic photo opportunities. You’ll also see the exterior of Quaitbay Castle, built on the site of the ancient Lighthouse of Alexandria, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The castle is a stunning photo stop.

  • Alexandria - Next, visit the gardens of Montaza. On the way, make a quick 2-minute stop at the King of Mango for freshly squeezed juice and a photo at the Memorial of the Unknown Soldier of Alexandria. The scenic coastline and city views lead to Montaza Palace and gardens, about 25 km away, including the old harbor where 7,000 monuments were found underwater.

In Montaza Gardens, also known as the Love Garden, you’ll explore the royal gardens of King Farouk, the last king of Egypt. See the royal palaces of Haramlek and Salamlek, walk along the famous Montaza Bridge, visit Tea Palace Island, and view the royal beaches of the queens.

  • Alexandria - On your return trip, stop at the famous Stanley Bridge, a modern landmark of Alexandria, then travel comfortably back to your hotel in Cairo.
