Additional Information

At the crack of dawn, more precisely 7.00 AM, a comfortable air-conditioned vehicle will pick you up from your lodging, beginning your journey towards Alexandria, a drive that spans approximately 3 Hrs. Begin your excursion with a visit to the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, architecturally significant remnants of the early 2nd century A.D. Following this, experience the majesty of Pompey’s pillar, a relic of the late 3rd century, along with the ruins of the Serapeum temple, an age-old temple dedicated to god Serapis.

Historically, the site was home to the ancient lighthouse (Pharos), one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, before it was unfortunately completely wiped out. Today, the fort of Qaitbay, a 15th-century CAD architectural marvel, stands impressively in its place.

Concluding the tour, we will explore the Modern Alexandria library. The Old library, celebrated globally, for its large collection of diverse scientific and literary books, unfortunately suffered repeated damage during the Greco Roman period until it disappeared. Replaced with the New Library which was inaugurated in the year 2002, it’s a must-visit in Alexandria, promising you a guided tour inside. Please note that the library is closed on Fridays.

Great one day introduction to Alexandria Egypt! - Our first full-day in Egypt and our VIATOUR guide, Iman, made sure we made the most of it! She was knowledgeable, flexible, considerate (including making sure we were comfortable on the drive) and had arranged a full-day experience for the 4 of us. We did everything highlighted on the tour package. In addition, she described the history, the current housing areas and government programs to increase housing, the sites of interest on the road from Cairo, and generally shared her customs and culture with us. We ended with visits to some of the Cairo craftsmen on the way back and had the opportunity to learn about papyrus and Egyptian jewelry and examine/purchase well-made objects. It was a great day!

A snapshot of old and new Alexandra with a great guide. - Eman our tour guide is very knowledgeable. Learnt so much in one day. Mohammad our minivan drive was great to navigate the Cairo and Alexandra traffic. The highlights for me were the catacombs, the citadel and the amazing Alexandra Library. Lunch at the seafood market overlooking the Mediterranean Sea was great and Eman's recommendation of lemon drink with mint was very refreshing. Although it was a long day, I would recommend it. The minivan was very comfortable. I would recommend this tour.
