Give it a go! - Even though it was mega hot, the crew was very kind, courteous, engaging and professional! Really had a great time and glad we went! Will definitely sail the Providence again!

Great day - What a great way to spend Independence Day. We appreciated the great staff and the fantastic views on the Potomac River.

Went again this year, been better than last time! - It was a perfect day for a sail! The wind off the Potomac gave us a really good time. The crew were amazing and knowledgeable and I loved the tours and the amenities aboard. Peaceful and idyllic. This is my second time sailing on the Providence and I would do it again in a heartbeat.

A fun evening on the Potomac aboard a tall ship! - The tall ship Providence is a replica built in the 1970’s in the style of the original ship and of other similar sloops that were in service during the Revolutionary War era. The Providence was one of the first two ships to be designated as part of the Continental Navy. Our event departed at 6pm for a two-hour sail around the Potomac. We had a full boat of passengers (41?) in addition to a captain and crew (plus 8, we think). Our event departed at 6 pm. After boarding, we were given significant safety briefings. As we departed the pier, the crew explained which sails they would unfurl during this trip. The crew asked for any volunteers to help with unfurling the sails. They accommodated all volunteers, even small children! It was good, they safely put out the sails while providing all volunteers the experience of contributing to the effort. One of the crew members, Caroline, provided informative historical presentations about this ship and other similar sloops used during the Revolutionary era. Caroline answered all our questions. The mast of the ship is tall enough that it cannot pass beneath the Wilson Bridge, so it just tools around between its dock and DCA airport. We had a great time and would recommend this trip for others.

Great experience, would diffently recommend to others.nice scenery along the way.perfect cruise, not too long. - Friendly, attentive, helpful staff. Very knowledgeable about the workings of the ship, eager to let you help raise the sales if you wanted. Very safety oriented helped you on and off the boat and up and down the ladders. Snacks and drinks reasonable priced. Gave you a history of the boat without making it boring. More seating would be nice

A lovely evening on the Potomac - We learned a lot about sailing a schooner and what it was like to be a crew member back in the day. If u want a sightseeing trip, this isn’t it. If u want to spend a few hours learning something new about life on the Potomac, particularly on a lovely evening, this is ur trip.

Great Father' Day gift - We went as a belated Father's Day celebration. Even though it was one of the hottest day of June, there was a lovely breeze once we were underway. We had a great time helping to raise the sails and being part of the crew. The crew and captain were all friendly and knowledgeable about the history of the ship. We enjoyed the tour of the ship and talking with the crew. Would highly recommend this.

Go for it - Went on one of the hottest days of the year and over the water and sailing with a breeze was quite comfortable Great crew, great to be out on the water. Opportunities exist for assisting in raising the sails. Easy location in Old Town

Revolutionary cocktails cruise - Great sail. Had the mixologist Jacob serving great cocktails. And the crew was great! 10/10 recommedation in Alexandria.

Not a top rated attraction. - We booked the 1:00 pm tour and the 3:30 sail for Wednesday. I got an email telling us they canceled out tour in favor of a private group. I get it that they would make more money from the larger group, but they put a bad taste in our mouths about how they do business. Caveat emptor. The ship is a replica of a the original Providence that plied the waters in Revolutionary time. The number of customers on board is limited by regulation. Though a replica, it is not a totally accurate replication of the original as parts of the hull were made of fiberglass. (I doubt that fiberglass existed in the late 18th century.) The crew contained a number of very outgoing and exuberant men and women. We were told of the rules of the sailing, and about some of the history of the vessel. I would have like to have heard more on the art of sailing. The date of the sail was an incredibly hot and disgusting mid-Atlantic day. There was a tiny breeze. At some point, the motor was disengaged and we sailed totally on wind power. But the captain didn't turn off the engine for us to experience the sounds of sailing under wind power. This was a fair experience for us. If there are other things on your list, you can put the Providence towards the bottom. It's ok, but not a must. If one in your party is disabled, call ahead about the feasibility of getting on board (very steep ramp). It would be hard to get up to the back deck and down into the hold.
