Guest - A mixed bag. My guide was very nice, but his English was limited, which made anything than surface level conversations difficult. I’m a former ESL teacher, so know how to simplify my language. If I didn’t, I’m not sure how communication would have gone. I booked a reed weaving master class and got one on embroidery (my guide initially told me it would be pottery but when I insisted I had booked something different, he enquired and found out I was indeed not booked for pottery). He then told me that the masterclass would cost an extra 5000 T (but then this was rightly reneged, since it was included in the-not-inconsiderable price). I had extra time to fill before the class, so he took me to the mosque, which was not in the itinerary and I appreciated. He was super nice but didn’t know exactly where the class was, how the parking went, etc., so I’m guessing it was his first time. 2 of the 4 halls in the museum were closed (no one’s fault, but a little disappointing nonetheless). I enjoyed the day, but if it definitely helped to go with the flow for some if it (and then insist for other bits). Would I recommend it? For the master class, yes. But reconfirm what it’s in and that the guide speaks English well enough to help (since the artisan teacher doesn’t).
