Up there with the best in Spain - This was well worth the visit and we enjoyed being able to walk around the site without the masses of crowds and people that we have endured at other sites around Spain. We visited in October, and the weather was lovely. I would have concerns visiting in summer with minimal shade on site.

Brilliant way to spend a couple of hours. - Amazing place. Absolutely beautiful. Lovely place to spend a couple of hours. We went when weather was cool not sure how it would be in the scorching sun, take water and comfy shoes as lots of walking up steps. Loos and a vending machine if needed. Great views and photo opportunities. A must if in almeria.

Totally recommended - We booked the visit at the last minute and it was a great success. We loved it, the 8:00 p.m. time is perfect for the heat and the views at dusk. Visit totally recommended and the guide who touched us, in addition to explaining it very well, made it very dynamic.

Great View and Learning Experience - Alcazaba is a great example of a Moorish Style fortress. One of the interesting things about it is that it has both circular and square turrets. The circular ones became preferable as cannons got better as the cannon balls would tend to bounce off. The view from the top is pretty amazing, but it can get very windy. if you have a hat make sure it is secured! It has LOTS of steps, so if you have limited mobility this is not the trip for you. It is great for getting your daily steps in though. If you are in the area, it is definitely worth a visit

Alcazaba of Almeria - The Alcazaba of Almeria has a different and interesting history from the others I've seen; Our guide seemed to have a lot of knowledge of the facts but, really, there were a lot of people and, most of the time, we didn't even listen to what she was saying. In the large courtyards she waited for the group to gather and passed on the information, in the small spaces and on the route you either stayed glued to her to follow what she was saying or you lost much of the information. There were 15 of us, we had to have a microphone for the guide and headphones for the tourists. The group was for a guide in Spanish, this does not mean that they are all native Spanish speakers. I speak Spanish but I don't follow when people speak too quickly, so I think the guide has to speak at a less frenetic pace, so that ALL tourists understand what is being said.

To do, without being exceptional - Worth seeing if you're in Almeria, but very disappointing when you saw the Alhambra the day before. Lots of work in progress and limited visitation.
